RENO, Nev. – Air Force Women's Basketball's three-game win streak was snapped on Wednesday evening, as the Falcons fell, 76-59, to the Nevada Wolf Pack at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno.
Senior Milahnie Perry closed the evening with a game high 20 points (6-17 FG, 8-10 FT, 4 REB). Perry drew six fouls on the evening, resulting in an added eight points to her tally. Senior Emily Adams ended on 11 points and a 5-6 showing from the free-throw line.
The Falcons trailed 20-10 at the close of the first quarter as a result of a 4-8 shooting start for Nevada. Air Force had to withstand eight and six-point Wolf Pack runs in the opening frame, both halted by O'Hollaren three-pointers. The junior's six points led all Falcon scorers after 10 minutes of play.
Hot shooting for the Wolf Pack carried into the second quarter. Nevada's lead expanded to 16 before Air Force settled in down the back half of the second quarter. Nevada turnovers began to mount and the Wolf Pack were limited to 38 percent shooting in the second quarter, allowing the Falcons to mount a 7-0 rally and pull back within single digits. Air Force trailed 34-26 at the first half buzzer.
The Falcons and Nevada traded blows at the start of the third quarter, but it was Air Force who maintained a slight edge. The Falcons pulled back within five points (36-31) on a turnaround jumper from Perry at the 8:22 mark, but Air Force's advances ended there. A 9-2 Nevada streak lifted the Wolf Pack back into a double-digit lead that held the remainder of the game.
Down 20 points with 7:24 to go, The Falcons showed signs of a momentum shift late. Air Force began chipping away at its deficit and briefly pulled back within 10 points behind a third O'Hollaren triple, but an Izzy Sullivan four-point play at the opposite right wing cut off the Falcons' hope for a comeback while restoring a 66-52 Nevada advantage with 3:41 left in the game.
Air Force (11-13, 5-9 MW) led Nevada (8-16, 4-10 MW) in free throws made (19) and attempted (26), points off of turnovers (11), fast break points (eight) and steals (five).
