
Air Force Falls At New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Air Force men's basketball (3-23, 0-15 MW) fell at New Mexico (20-6, 11-4 MW), 98-61, in Mountain West action Tuesday night at The Pit. Freshman guard Kam Sanders led the Falcons with 13 points.
New Mexico shot 55 percent from the field making 15 three's on the night. The Lobos held a 48-23 advantage in rebounding, leading to 34 points in the paint. Antonio Chol led four Lobos in double figures scoring with 20 points, with five three's made.
New Mexico shot 68 percent from the field in the first half and dominated boards with a 22-5 advantage in the first half. The Lobos held a 20-10 advantage in points in the paint, while also knocking down seven three's to go ahead 55-35 at the break. The Falcons did a good job of taking care of the ball, committing just five turnovers in the opening half. In the first meeting, the Falcons committed 15 first-half turnovers.
New Mexico continued its strong play in the second half as the Falcons struggled to get back into the game.
Sanders led Air Force in points, rebounds (5), assists (2) and steals (2). Freshman Lucas Hobin added 10 points, going 5-for-5 from the line.
Junior Kolby Gilles scored a career-high nine points, grabbing two rebounds in the start. Freshman Riley Dering led the bench with seven points and three rebounds.
Air Force got to the line for 19 free throw attempts and had seven steals, its most since the San Jose State game in mid-January. The Falcons committed 12 turnovers for the game, 10 below the first meeting.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 21 vs. UNLV. Tip time is 1 pm MT from Clune Arena. The game will be streamed on the MW Network.
