U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Students from elementary schools across the Colorado Springs area got a show at Field Trip Day on Wednesday afternoon in Clune Arena, as Air Force Women's Basketball persevered over Wyoming, picking up a 69-61 overtime win over the Cowgirls.
For the game, senior Emily Adams led all scorers with 18 points (8-13 FG, 1-1 3FG, 1-3 FT, 7 REB). Junior Jordyn Devaughn closed the game with a season high 16 points (4-10 FG, 2-5 3FG, 6-6 FT, 7 REB). Senior Milahnie Perry and junior Jayda McNabb both ended the day with nine points apiece, with McNabb adding to the Falcon stat sheet a game-high eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. Freshman Eva Love, playing in just her fifth career game, earned a career-high 28 minutes and finished with nine points – five of which were scored in overtime.
Wyoming held an 18-14 lead at the close of the first quarter. The Falcons withstood an 8-15 (.533) Cowgirl start at the net to hang within a single possession for the majority of the opening frame. Air Force saw its deficit grow in the second quarter, but the Falcons battled back. Down the final five minutes of the first half and staring down its largest deficit of the game at 28-16, Air Force found a rhythm, amassing a 12-1 run. Devaughn's eight points in the run behind back-to-back three-pointers at the close of the half cut Wyoming's advantage to 29-28.
A successfully converted McNabb and-one on the Falcons' first possession of the second half pulled Air Force into its first lead of the game. Wyoming answered to tie on the opposite end, buying back the lead at the start of an 11-2 Cowgirl run. Wyoming held a 44-37 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Air Force outscored Wyoming 22-15 in the fourth quarter, ultimately ending regulation with a 59-all tie. Air Force held a 59-57 lead with 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, but Wyoming's Payton Muma found Jame Rumpf for a backdoor layup with three seconds to go, forcing overtime.
Air Force dominated the extra period, outscoring Wyoming 10-2 on the way to its first win over the Cowgirls since the 2021-22 season. A Bhret Clay three and back-to-back breakaway layups for Love to earn the Falcons a quick 66-59 lead. The Falcons held Wyoming to 1-7 from the field in overtime, sealing the Falcons' eighth home win of the season.
Air Force (13-15, 7-11 MW) topped Wyoming (9-18, 6-12 MW) in field goal attempts (67), three-pointers made (five) and attempted (18), offensive rebounds (nine), steals (11), points off of turnovers (19), second-chance points (eight), fast-break points (11) and bench points (17).
