Texas Tanner Wins Mountain West Weight Throw Title

RENO, Nev. – Air Force senior Texas Tanner captured the Mountain West title in the weight throw this afternoon (Feb. 27), as the Falcons continued action at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships in Reno. Tanner was one of two Falcons to earn a podium finish at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Friday, while junior Liliane Aittama reset the program record in the 800-meter run.
Tanner, a four-time outdoor champion, secured his first indoor title today, as he won the weight throw with a 23.31-meter (76'5¾") throw. Recording that distance on his first attempt of the day, Tanner bettered the 16-thrower field by nearly two meters, With the title, Tanner became the third member of the men's program to win a MW championship in that event, while marking the third time in five years that Air Force has claimed the conference title in the men's weight throw.
The senior paced the Falcons to a pair of top-five finishes in the weight throw, as junior Arden Jenkins recorded a career-best throw of 18.27 meters (59'11¼") to finish fifth. With that throw, a personal improvement of nearly two meters, Jenkins debuted at No. 15 on the Academy's all-time standings.
On the women's side, sophomore Morgan Glaser captured runner-up honors in the high jump, marking the first podium finish for the Falcons since 2018. Glaser, one day removed from breaking the Air Force Record in the pentathlon, matched her career-high clearance of 1.84 meters (6'0½") – set yesterday during her record-setting debut in the pentathlon – to finish the competition tied for the best clearance of the day. It took three rounds of a jump-off to break the tie, with Glaser ultimately claiming the silver medal.
Like the weight throw, Air Force claimed a pair of scoring (top eight) finishers in the high jump. Freshman Zoe Heizer recorded a career-best clearance of 1.70 meters (5'7") to finish sixth in the 17-athlete competition and move up to No. 10 on the Academy's all-time standings.
Several preliminary races were also contested today, with an Air Force Record from junior Liliane Aittama highlighted the night. The third-year Falcon ran a 2:05.95 to claim the fastest qualifying time of the 35-runner prelim, while her altitude-adjusted time of 2:05.37 broke a program standard that Annette Eichenberger had held since 2014.
Aittama was one of three Falcons to advance into the 800-meter final, as classmate Cam Bodine won her heat in 2:07.63 for an automatic spot, while fellow junior Rachel Fereday advanced on time after posting a 2:10.84 to finish second to Aittama. Fereday's time, when lowered to 2:10.25 for altitude, is the fifth-fastest time in Air Force history – meaning that the trio has accounted for three of the program's five-fastest performances during the 2026 season. Classmate Anna Harden earned a Big Q into the final of the mile run after posting a time of 4:53.62 – an altitude-adjusted time of 4:48.19 that improved her own No. 3 mark on the Academy's all-time standings.
The men qualified three into the mile finals, as junior Dominykas Remeikis (4:07.32) and senior Ben Scheller (4:09.24) finished second in their respective preliminary heats for an automatic place in the final, and sophomore Patrick Allen advanced on time after finishing in 1:52.96. Junior Jonah Hochstetler advanced in the 800-meter run after finishing second in his heat with a time of 1:52.96.
During the field event finals, freshman Arianna Valenzuela uncorked a throw of 15.08 meters (49'5¾") to move up to No. 17 on the Academy's all-time standings, while classmates Eleanor Borchard (55.85, No. 6 all-time) and Zachary DeWalt (48.22, No. 19 all-time) improved their respective standings in the Air Force Record Book during the preliminary round of the 400-meter dash. Junior Scarlet Fetterolf also impacted the Air Force Record Book during the prelims, as her altitude-adjusted mile of 4:48.74 is the fourth-fastest all-time mark at the Academy.

The Falcons return to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center tomorrow (Feb. 28) for Championship Saturday at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships.
