NORMAN, Okla. -- The 13th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team posted a season-high 303.050 on Saturday (Feb. 7) night, during a triangular meet against No. 2 Oklahoma and No. 3 Ohio State in Norman. The Falcons, who improved their overall total by nearly a point, accounted for season-high scores in each of the final three events.
Seniors Sam Brown and Jack Matlock led the Falcons with a pair of top-four finishes on the pommel horse, as Brown posted a career-high 14.000 to finish third and Matlock added a season-high score of 13.900 to place fourth. Air Force also received a top-five finish from sophomore Jared Fry, who scored a personal-best 13.400 to place fourth on the high bar.
Senior Tai Gopaul placed among the top half of the 12-gymnast field on the parallel bars and high bar, while freshman Isaac Koo added a top-six finish on the floor exercise. Gopaul, the Falcons' top finisher on the parallel bars with a season-high, sixth-place score of 12.950, joined Fry among the high bar's top six (season-high 13.250, sixth) and was the team's top finisher on the still rings with a season-high 12.550 (ninth). Koo, in his first road meet, scored a 13.100 to finish sixth on the floor, while classmate John Hults added more than a point to his vault score (13.800, eighth) to round out the Falcons' list of event leaders.
Air Force returns to action next week (Feb. 13), when it heads to Fort Worth, Texas, to face Army West Point and Navy at the All-Academy Championships.
