
Air Force matches best road round of season at Torrey Pines

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force golf team matched its best road round of the season on the second day of the UC San Diego Invitational, Monday, March 23, at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif.
Air Force shot a 284 (-4) in the second round, matching the 284 shot at Loyola on Feb. 16. The round was the best the Falcons have ever shot at the UCSD Invitational at Torrey Pines. The 284 also tied as the third best round of any team in the second round.
After 36 holes, Air Force jumped up to a tie for seventh place with a 577 (+1). Loyola Marymount, the highest ranked team in the tournament, leads the 17-team field at 561 (-15), followed by UC Santa Barbara at 568 (-8) and Cal Baptist and UC San Diego each at 571 (-5).
Freshman Ben Zeiler and junior Carson Baker each shot a 69 (-3) in the second round. Zeiler's 69 marks his second straight round under par and his fifth round at par or better in 14 rounds this season. Zeiler made five birdies with only two bogeys.
Baker's 69 is a career-best, also making five birdies and two bogeys. Junior Eli Huntington shot his second straight even-par 72. Senior Eric Liveringhouse made five birdies and shot 74 (+2) and Grant Samuelson shot 79. Brooks Morrell shot 74 and Ted Davenport shot 80 competing as individuals.
The final round begins at 7 am PT on Tuesday, March 24, at Torrey Pines.
