DENVER, Colo. – The Air Force women's gymnastics team closed out the road portion of the regular season with a 195.925 performance against No. 23 Denver this evening (March 9) at Magness Arena. The Falcons, facing the Pioneers for the second time in four days, posted their second-highest scores of the year on the vault (49.025) and floor exercise (49.250).
Contributing to the Falcons' vault tally was another Air Force record-matching 9.925 from junior Maggie Slife, who finished second in the 12-gymanst field. The junior, who took first in the all-around with a 39.475, was one of two Academy gymnasts to place within the top six of the vault, as sophomore Alyssa Bigler added a fourth-place score of 9.850.
Bigler also helped Air Force to its 49.250 finish on the floor exercise, as she and senior Kylee Greene tied for third with matching 9.900 scores. That tally marked a career-high for Greene and the fourth time this season that Bigler has registered a score of at least 9.900 on the floor.
Freshman Erin McDermott also collected a top-three finish on Monday night, scoring a 9.825 – the second-highest score of her career – to tie with Slife for third on the balance beam. In addition to her top-three finishes on the vault and beam, Slife rounded out the Falcons' list of event leaders with a fourth-place tally of 9.850 on the uneven bars – a finish that paced Air Force to a trio of top-six finishes, as junior Chelsea Boyer and Greene tied for fifth with a pair of 9.825 scores.
Air Force returns to the Academy on Saturday, March 14, when it wraps up the regular season hosting Fisk University at 6:00 p.m. (MT).
