2nd. Lt. TJ Fumagalli enters her first season in 2021-22 as an assistant coach with Air Force women’s tennis.
Fumagalli is a 2020 Academy graduate and regarded as one of the all-time greats in Air Force Athletics history.
She holds most of the Air Force women’s tennis records and a long list of firsts in the program. Fumagalli is the school record holder in 5 of 6 career win categories, including career wins (228), singles wins (114) and doubles wins (114).
Fumagalli was the 2020 Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, a first for the program. In addition, she is the first Academy women’s tennis player at the Div. I level to earn a national ranking in both singles and doubles.
She is a four-time Mountain West All-Conference honoree in both singles and doubles. In addition, Fumagalli was a team captain and MVP for three seasons. In 2020, she also earned the Air Force Academy Female Most Valuable Player award as part of the USAFA Athletics Top 6 Awards.
Fumagalli burst onto the scene as a freshman with 80 combined wins and 40 singles and 40 doubles wins—all three school records. She also helped earn the program’s first-ever national ranking in doubles. As a sophomore she earned national rankings in both singles and doubles, as she posted 47 combined wins.
As a junior, she posted a 62-10 combined record to earn All-MW singles and doubles honors. Fumagalli helped guide the Falcons to a program-record 22 wins (22-3 record) including a share of the Mountain West Mountain Division title, Air Force’s first-ever MW title in a women’s sport. Fumagalli also helped win the ITA Mountain Regional doubles title and a trip to the ITA Fall Championships, both firsts for the program.
As a senior, she capped a standout career with a 39-13 overall record. She earned the MW POY honor, in addition to national rankings in both singles and doubles.
Fumagalli graduated in 2020 as part of the first-ever class to join the Space Force. She reported to Vandenberg SFB, Calif. for her first assignment, where she worked as a program manager. During her time at Vandenberg, she graduated from Undergraduate Space Training.
Fumagalli was transferred to Peterson SPF, Colo. In mid-2021 and assigned to the 16th Space Control Squadron where she trained to be a deployment crew commander. In addition, she graduated from Space Electronic Warfare Follow-on Training while at Peterson.
Fumagalli, a native of New Braunfels, Texas, is on track for promotion to 1st. Lt. in early 2022.
