The Air Force women's basketball team remained winless on the road, falling to BYU 78-59 Saturday at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah. The Falcons had trouble finding the bottom of the net, shooting just 28 percent (17-of-61) from the field in the loss. It was the seventh consecutive loss for the Falcons, who fall to 3-13 overall and 0-3 in the league.
The Cougars took control of the tempo early, opening the game with a 12-2 run. The Falcons would cut the double-digit deficit in half, but the strong inside game of the BYU was difficult for Air Force to defend. By the end of the half, the Cougars had extended their lead to 14 points, 35-21.
Air Force never challenged for the lead in the second half, as BYU continued its physical, inside play to score short jumpers and lay ups. A trio of post players scored in double figures for the Falcons. Danielle Cheesman (15), Ashley Chamberlain (12) and Ambrosia Anderson (11) combined for 38 points, most of them in the paint.
Letricia Castillo led the team in scoring for the 10th time this year. Amoy Jackson added 12 points for the Falcons and led the squad with six rebounds. Shawna Neff chipped in 10 points. Air Force continues to improve on ball possession. They tallied a season-low 13 turnovers in the game. The team shot 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from three-point range
The Falcons will be back in action Thursday (Jan. 29) when they host UNLV, followed by San Diego State on Saturday (Jan. 31).
