Air Force Falls To High Point, 69-62, At Bimini Jam

BIMINI, BAHAMAS - Air Force men's basketball fell to High Point (2-3), 69-62, Monday night at the 2018 Bimini Jam Sunday afternoon at Gateway Christian Academy. A late rally fell just short for the Falcons, who fell to 2-3 on the season.
Trailing by as many as 20 points, Air Force mounted a late game rally but ultimately fell short. The Falcons trailed HPU 50-30 five minutes into the second half but would later go on a 15-3 run to cut into the big lead. Air Force got to within six points of High Point with three minutes to play, but were unable to get any closer.
Three Falcons reached double-figures in scoring, led by freshman AJ Walker and sophomore Chris Joyce, who combined for 25 points off the bench. Walker scored 13 points and was 6 of 7 at the free throw line. Joyce scored 12 and tied for a team-high four assists. Junior Sid Tomes added 11 points and four assists. Tomes also made three of Air Force's six three's on the night.
Air Force got off to a slow start falling behind 38-25 at the half. A 10-0 run allowed HPU to build up the big halftime lead. The Panthers ripped off another 10 point run later to eventually get up 20 before the Falcons fought back. Air Force struggled to contain the duo of Jahaad Proctor and Ricky Madison, who combined for 43 points. Procter scored a game-high 28 and Madison notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Air Force also had nine points and seven rebounds from Lavelle Scottie. Ryan Swan added six points and seven boards. Purvis Louder chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.
The Falcons shot 40 percent from the field, 25 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the line. After attempting just two free throws in the first half, the Falcons got to the line 14 times in the second. Air Force was also out-rebounded for the first time this season 36-33.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Nov. 24, hosting Colorado. Tip time is 4 pm MT.
