Air Force Women’s Hoops Soars Past Army, 71-60

Freshman standout Briana Autrey led the way with 24 points for Air Force’s first win against Army since 2007
West Point, N.Y. - Air Force outscored Army, 19-6, in the fourth quarter to surge past the Black Knights at home, Wednesday evening, in Christl Arena, West Point. The win marks the Falcons first against Army since beating them at home in 2007. The Falcons improve to 3-2 on the season for their best five-game start since the 2011-12 season.
Freshman standout Briana Autrey had the highlight performance with 22 points, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Autrey's hustle-defense turned the tide in favor of the Falcons on several occasions while her penetrating style of offense drew five fouls. She led the Falcons in free throws, shooting 8-9 (.890) from the line.
Riley Snyder, who has started in all contests this season, had the second most points with 15. She shot 5-11 from the field and was 4-6 in free throws. Her scoring performance marks a personal high. Freshman teammate Haley Jones also contributed with six points and four rebounds.
Sophomore team captain Kaelin Immel dropped 14 points for the Falcons, shooting perfect (4-4) from the field in the first half, and 5-6 from the free throw line on the game. Co-team captain Venessannah Itugbu made her presence known, recording eight rebounds on the game, seven of which were on the defensive side of the ball.

-The last time Air Force beat Army by more than 11 points was in Dec., 2005, at USAFA (73-61)
-Air Force freshmen combined for 45 points-- Air Force underclassmen (Fr.-So.) combined for 64 points.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown
First Quarter: Army 21, Air Force 18
-Starters: Venessannah Itugbu, Emily Conroe, Riley Snyder, Alexis Springfield and Kassady Huffman
-Army worked up to a five-point lead by the fifth minute of the quarter.
- Autrey turned the tide with a 5-0 run by way of a three-point play and a steal taken to the basket to knot the game at 15 with 1:39 remaining in the first quarter.
-Haley Jones followed up with a three-pointer to give Air Force its first lead of the game, 18-15.
-Army responded with a six-point swing, capped off by a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the quarter.
Second Quarter: Air Force 38, Army 33
-Back-and-forth action kept the margin low early on but the Falcons began to walk away midway through the quarter. Air Force closed the last 90-seconds of the second quarter on a 5-1 run, outscoring Army, 20-12, by the halftime whistle.
- Air Force freshmen combined for 24 points in the first-half, led by Autrey's 11 points.
Third Quarter: Army 54, Air Force 52
-Army battled back into the game as they chiseled away at Air Force's lead over the first five minutes of the quarter, outscoring the Falcons, 21-14.
-Autrey set her season-high scoring mark at 20 points.
Fourth Quarter: Air Force 71, Army 60
-A crucial three-pointer by Snyder gave Air Force a little breathing room halfway through the quarter. Air Force would not give up the lead again from the point forward.
-Air Force continued to build the lead by forcing Army turnovers and errors while holding Army's leading scorer, Madison Hovern, to just one point in the fourth quarter.
-With Hovern contained, Air Force exploded past Army in scoring, 19-6.
The Falcons travel to Boston, Mass., to take on Northeastern, Saturday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. ET. The game will mark the first meeting between the teams.
