10th-Ranked Air Force Men's Soccer travels to Kansas City for a Saturday WAC matchup

THIS WEEK: The 10th-ranked Air Force Falcons open the conference slate with a Saturday match against UMKC, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. CT, in Kansas City. The Falcons and Roos (1-5-0) will be meeting for the ninth time with Air Force leading the all-time series, 5-2-1. Last season the Falcons downed UMKC in Kansas City, 2-1, in overtime.
LAST WEEK: Air Force picked up a pair of wins at home over the weekend, dropping No. 22 San Francisco on Friday, 2-1, and taking Harvard to school on Sunday, 6-1. The then-23rd-ranked Falcons notched two straight first-half goals to post a come-from-behind win over San Francisco, Friday evening, extending to six-straight wins along with their second victory over a Top-25 team in as many tries. On Sunday, Air Force put its dynamic offense on display as six Falcons registered goals in the 6-1 victory over Harvard (2-5-0). Air Force improved to 7-1, closing out a four-game home stretch without a blemish while extending to seven-straight wins on the season.
ON THE MAP: The Falcons continue to fly up the national polls this week. Air Force is ranked 10th in the United Soccer Coaches' Top 25, 13th in the College Soccer News Top 30 and 18th in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25. They were also 17th in last week's Soccer America Top 25 and should climb when the next poll is announced. The United Soccer Coaches switched up the regional ranking system for 2018 and the WAC is now in the Far West Region with the Pac-12 and Big West conferences. Air Force tops the rankings, moving up to the top spot from fourth last week. UNLV is the only other WAC school in this week's ranking, dropping one spot to 10th.
THE FALCONS AT A GLANCE: Seven seniors, a pair of juniors and a pair of sophomores make up the Falcons' starting 11, led by team captains Bone, Austin Dewing and Zane Moxley. Bone leads the squad with 54 career starts in 67 games played while Dewing has played in 64 career matches with 35 starts. Bone leads Air Force with 12 points from four goals and four assists while Dewing leads in goals with five. The Falcons have tallied 20 goals so far this season while only allowing opponents five. With conference play beginning in earnest this week, Air Force is on top of the WAC in points (55), goals (20), least goals allowed (5), goals against average (0.61), shutouts (4) and corners (49).
Klint Parker and Bone lead the squad with 17 apiece shots while Dewing leads with 10 shots on frame. As a team, Air Force has out shot their opponents in the last seven games. In all eight games played, the Falcons have taken 122 shots to all opponents 72 while taking twice as many shots on frame as opponents faced (53-26).
The Air Force defense is firing on all cylinders, posting four shutouts in the last seven games including a 3-0 routing of nationally-ranked Colgate. Falcon keeper Andrea Seazzu is proving to be a human force field for opponents, notching 21 saves while posting his fourth shutout and seventh-straight win. He leads the WAC in shutouts and goals against average (0.62). With the assistance of the Falcons' superior defensive line, Seazzu has eight shutouts in 13 career appearances for a 12-1 career record in the Air Force cage.
Individually and relative to conference players, AFA's Tucker Bone and UNLV's Nico Clasen and are tied for the lead in assists (4). Bone also leads the WAC in game-winning goals (3). In net, Air Force's Andrea Seazzu holds the top goals against average (0.62) and leads the league in shutouts (4).
UP NEXT: The Falcons open the conference home-slate with a pair of matches against Incarnate Word and UTRGV, Thurs., Sept. 27 and Sat., Sept. 29, respectively. The match against UIW is slated for a 7 p.m. MT start. It will be the fifth meeting between the teams with Air Force remaining unbeaten in the series. UTRGV and the Falcons will square off for the fourth time at 1 p.m., with Air Force leading the three-game series, 2-0-1.
