
Women’s Gymnastics Opens the Season with a Solid Performance

Air Force women’s gymnastics saw its best numbers on the beam in the 2019 season opener
BOISE, Idaho -- Air Force posted a stellar 48.950 team score on the balance beam but came up short in the overall team score (191.875) against No. 16 Boise State (196.400) and San Jose State (193.050), Sunday afternoon (Jan. 13), in Taco Bell Arena, Boise, Idaho.
Sophomore USAG All-American first-teamer Tyler Davis led the Falcons in two events, posting a 9.750 on the vault and a 9.725 on the floor exercise. Team scores for the aforementioned events were 47.850 and 47.825, respectively. Davis' all-around score was 38.400.
Sophomore Cam Barber and freshman teammate Daija Stevenson posted impressive 9.825 marks on the beam which became the Falcons' highest scoring event at the tri-meet.
On the uneven bars, USAG All-American Anna Salamone led the Falcons with a 9.825 mark as the team combined for 47.250 on the event.
Other performers included Heidi Sand, who tied her personal-best mark on the vault (9.575), Riley Hill, Brooke Bruder, Brittney Reed, Jessica Kirkpatrick, Mariana Murphy and Emily Luers. Along with Stevenson, two other freshmen, Natalie Meyer and Cameo Stapleton, made their collegiate debuts at the event.
Next up, Air Force is slated to host the first-of-two events scheduled for the Academy this season, as West Virginia and Cortland State come to the Academy, Sat. Jan. 19. The tri-meet will start at 6 p.m. MT, in Cadet West Gym
