Women's Gymnastics Hosts West Virginia, SUNY Cortland in Home-Opener

Air Force women's gymnastics will commence action, 6 p.m. MT, Saturday evening, in Cadet West Gym
THIS WEEKEND
Air Force hosts West Virginia and Cortland State in the 2019 home-opener, 6 p.m., in Cadet West Gym, USAF Academy. A live stream will be available for the meet and fans can get live updates via the women's gymnastics Twitter feed. @AFAgymnastics. Admission to the event is free and the Falcons will hold a poster signing following the meet.
NATIONALLY RANKED
Air Force was No. 16 nationally on the balance beam for week two, according to RoadToNationals.com, following the Falcons' impressive showing in the season opener.
STEVENSON WINS MPSF FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Air Force freshman Daija Stevenson (Atlanta, GA) was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Freshman of the Week, for women's gymnastics action Jan. 9-15. In her collegiate debut, Stevenson posted a 9.825 on the balance beam which tied Sophomore teammate Cam Barber's score for the Falcons' highest scores at the tri-meet, at No. 16 Boise State (Jan. 13). The pair tied for fourth on the event. Stevenson's success on the beam helped lead Air Force to a No. 16 national ranking in the event (48.950).
This is the first career MPSF honor for Stevenson. MPSF Gymnast of the Week honors went to San Jose State junior Taylor Chan, while the Specialist of the Week nod went to Alaska-Anchorage junior Mackenzie Miller.
FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE
SUNY Cortland is helmed by head coach Sierra Day, daughter of Air Force head coach, Doug Day. It is her first season at the reins of the program.
UP NEXT
The Falcons travel to San Jose State for quad action with the Spartans, Seattle Pacific and Alaska, 7 p.m. PT, on Friday, January 25, in San Jose California. The meet will mark the second time that the Falcons and Spartans have competed against each other this season.
LAST WEEKEND
Air Force posted a stellar 48.950 team score on the balance beam but came up short in the overall team score (191.875) against No. 16 Boise State (196.400) and San Jose State (193.050), Sunday afternoon (Jan. 13), in Taco Bell Arena, Boise, Idaho.
Sophomore USAG All-American first-teamer Tyler Davis led the Falcons in two events, posting a 9.750 on the vault and a 9.725 on the floor exercise. Team scores for the aforementioned events were 47.850 and 47.825, respectively. Davis' all-around score was 38.400.
Sophomore Cam Barber and freshman teammate Daija Stevenson posted impressive 9.825 marks on the beam, tying for fourth, with what became the Falcons' highest scoring event at the tri-meet.
On the uneven bars, USAG All-American Anna Salamone led the Falcons with a 9.825 mark and a fifth-place finish as the team combined for 47.250 on the event.
