Record Scoring Night As Falcons Topple Runnin’ Rebels 106-88

Falcons set record for most points in a conference game as six players reach double figures.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. — Air Force men's basketball (7-10, 2-3) rolled to a 106-88 win over UNLV (9-7, 3-1) in Mountain West action Wednesday late night in front of a frenzied crowd of 3,761 at Clune Arena. The Falcons set a program record for most points scored in a conference game as they handed the Runnin' Rebels their first conference loss of the season in a game that tipped at 9 pm MT.
Six Falcons reached double figures in scoring, paced by junior Ryan Swan. Swan was one point shy of his career-high with 22 points, to go with nine rebounds. Caleb Morris scored a career-high 19 points and freshman AJ Walker scored 15. Chris Joyce and Lavelle Scottie put in 14 points each and Ameka Akaya added 10 points. The 106 points is the ninth most all-time at Air Force.
The Falcons scored early and often, taking the lead on a three by Swan at the 18:15 mark. Air Force did not trail the rest of the way, building to a 48-34 halftime lead. For the game, the Falcons shot 59.7 percent from the field, connecting on 40 of 67 attempts. The Falcons also made 45 percent of their three point shots (9 of 20) and 85 percent from the free throw line (17-20).
The scoring did not let up in the second half, as Air Force put up 58 to UNLV's 54 for a combined 102 second half points. Air Force and UNLV's 194 combined points is the most in a MW game for the Falcons and the seventh most all-time.
UNLV had three players reach double figures in scoring. Amauri Hardy scored 23 points to lead the Runnin' Rebels, who shot 48 percent from the field.
Against one of the top rebounding teams in the conference, Air Force won the rebounding battle 35-31. The Falcons also held a 56-29 edge in points in the paint. The Falcons snapped a three game losing streak to the Rebels and won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Jan. 19 at first place and 10th ranked Nevada. Tip time at Lawlor Events Center is 7 pm PT. The Falcons will be on the ESPN family of networks for the third straight game with the game being televised by ESPNU.
