
Women's Hoops to Host Utah State in MWC Home Opener

Air Force women's basketball will tip off against the Aggies, Saturday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m.
AIR FORCE vs UTAH STATE: The Falcons return to USAFA to host Utah State, Sat. Jan. 5, for the Mountain West Conference home opener. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. MT, in Clune Arena.
THE SERIES: Air Force and Utah State will be meeting for the 14th time. The Aggies lead the all-time series, 9-4. Air Force downed Utah State in two-of-three meetings last season, including a win of the first-round of the Mountain West tournament.

LAST TIME OUT: Air Force fell to New Mexico, 57-78, in the Mountain West Conference opener, Wednesday evening, in Dreamstyle Arena, Albuquerque, N.M. The Falcons dropped to 4-8, 0-1 MWC, while the Lobos improved to 11-1.
The Falcons were led by sophomore guard Emily Conroe who scored 15 points while shooting 6-8 from the field. Conroe also made her presence felt on the defensive side of the ball as she led the team with three steals while snagging three rebounds.
AIR FORCE AT A GLANCE: The Falcons are led Kaelin Immel and Briana Autrey who average 11.7 and 10.6 points per game, respectively. Autrey is proving to be the team's hot-shot, shooting .456 from the field while Immel has the best shooting percentage from down range (.382). Immel spends more than half of every game on the court, averaging 29.5 minutes per game. Autrey consistently displays her skill on both sides of the ball with the second most steals on the team (20) while maintaining her spot as the second-leading scorer.
Freshman forward Riley Snyder, who has started in 11-12 contests this season, averages 8.6 points per game, and notched a career-best 20-point performance against Navy. Snyder shoots .372 from beyond the arc, a three-point shooting percentage second only to Immel. Junior forward Kassady Huffman handles the majority of her business in the paint, leading the team with 6.8 boards per game and 17 blocks, a mark that places her second in the conference in blocks.
Air Force underclassmen make up the Falcons' top-five leading scorers; three of which are freshmen. It is not uncommon to see five freshmen on the court at any given time. Autrey and Snyder both average 20+ minutes per game. Of all of the players who have registered more than 100 minutes on the floor this season, seven are underclassmen, three are freshmen.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE AGGIES: Utah State (6-6, 1-0) comes to Clune Arena fresh off a MWC opening double-overtime win over Nevada. The Aggies average 64.5 points per game while shooting .414 from the field and over .300 from the arc.
Several Aggies rank in the top five in the Mountain West in various categories. Junior guard/forward Shannon Dufficy leads the league in rebounds, averaging 8.9 per game. Dufficy is second in the league in both offensive and defensive rebounds, averaging 3.2 and 5.7 per game, respectively. Dufficy is also tied for second in steals per game, averaging 2.1, and is third in the league in free throw percentage, shooting 83.9 percent from the charity stripe. Junior guard Eliza West ranks second in the Mountain West and 33rd in the nation in assists per game, averaging 5.5. Freshman guard Steph Gorman is tied for fifth in the conference in 3-pointers made, averaging 2.3 per game.

Air Force hit 10 of its first 12 shots in the first quarter, good for 83.3 percent shooting and raced out to a commanding 24-14 lead after the first quarter. The Falcons kept it going, taking a 35-24 lead at the half.
The Falcons kept the pressure on Utah State in the second-half, out-scoring the Aggies 21-14 in the third quarter to build up to a 56-38 lead. Air Force was able to hold off Utah State in the fourth quarter, emptying the bench late in the game.
The All-Mountain West Freshman Team duo of Emily Conroe and Kaelin Immel led the Falcons with 18 points each and Dee Bennett scored a season-high 14 points. Conroe was 8 of 13 from the field, connecting on a pair of three-point baskets as well. Immel, who was named the 2017-18 Mountain West Freshman of the Year earlier in the day, was 4 of 11 from the field and a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line. Bennett also registered seven rebounds and two steals.
