A late rally by Air Force women’s basketball came up short in MWC home opener, Saturday afternoon
USAF Academy, Colo. - A late rally by Air Force came up shy as the Falcons fell to Utah State in the MWC home opener, 48-44, Saturday afternoon in Clune Arena. Air Force's losing streak extends to six games as the falcons drop to 4-9 overall with a 0-2 mark in league play. Utah State improves to 7-6 with a 2-0 mark in the Mountain West.
Air Force freshman Riley Snyder led the way for Air Force with a 16 point performance, going a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line. Snyder shot 4-13 from the field. Freshman teammate Haley Jones was a significant contributor as well, collecting a personal best 12 rebounds on the game while adding six points and two steals.
Air Force team captain Venessannah Itugbu put her defensive ability on display as she tallied three blocks and a steal with six points to her credit. Sophomore guard Emily Conroe scored nine points and had the best shooting percentage for the Falcons on the game (.444).
The Aggies were led by Shannon Dufficy who had a game-leading 24 points and 13 rebounds. Air Force turned the ball over 14 times, seven in each half, but it was Utah State who was plagued by turnovers, as they gave up the ball 11 times in the second half and 18 times on the game. The Falcons shot just 12.5 percent from afar and 25.0 percent on the game while Utah State shot 39.1 percent from the field. The rebounding situation was neck-and-neck as the Aggies only collected three more than Air Force (42-39).
The Falcons host Colorado State, Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. MT, in Clune Arena. The Falcons and Rams will be tipping off for the 60th time in program history. Colorado State is on a 13-game winning-streak against Air Force dating back to January of 2012.

-USU's leading scorer, Shannon Dufficy, opened the quarter with a three-pointer to extend the Aggies' lead to 10
-The teams went back and forth in scoring with the Aggies maintaining a 10-point lead at the media timeout
-AF shooting took another dip to 26.7 percent from the field, going 0-3 with the three-ball on the quarter

-Air Force fumbled two-straight inbound passes while down by two, USU capitalized with a bucket to increase the lead to four
-Air Force continued to try the three-ball but couldn't get it to fall, Snyder rebounded in the paint, put it back up for two and a foul where she connected for the third point to bring AF within three with 2:45 remaining in the game
-Three late turnovers tripped the Falcons up on their comeback run
