Air Force women’s hoops snapped a 13-game losing streak to CSU dating back to 2011
USAF Academy, Colo. - Air Force led the Colorado State (7-7, 1-2 MWC) in scoring for over 37-minutes to beat the Rams, 63-48, snapping a six-game losing streak on the season and a 13-game losing streak to Colorado State dating back to 2011. Sophomore guard Emily Conroe led the way with 22 points to improve the Falcons' overall record to 5-9, while adding their first MWC win of the season.
Conroe's 22 points marked a season-high scoring performance while she also led the game with nine rebounds. Freshman forward Riley Snyder drained four three-pointers, tallied 18 points and collected seven rebounds on the game. Snyder and Conroe were both perfect from the free throw line. Sophomore co-team captain, Kaelin Immel, scored 11 points and collected eight rebounds for the second most on the floor.
Air Force out-rebounded the Rams, 44-33, and had one less turnover (16-17). The Air Force bench combined for eight points while the team shot 86.7 percent (13-15) from the free throw line.
The Rams were led by Lore Devos who had 16 points and four rebounds. Although the Rams shot better from the field, they only made one three-ball in 10 attempts.
"I've been here four years and it's the first time we beat this team and that's a special feeling," said head coach Chris Gobrecht. "CSU has been a real standard-bearer for this conference and I think it's important to get these kinds of wins every season."
"I'm really proud of our women," continued Gobrecht. "I thought we played the way that we needed to play, we did the things that win games-- controlled the tempo, got the rebounds and made the shots. We're a good shooting team but we haven't been shooting well these past few games, but tonight we got them to fall."
