Mike Miller scored five goals in the final regular-season game
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Air Force's late rally came up short as Santa Clara defeated the Falcons, 15-11, in a Western Water Polo Association game, Sunday, Nov. 10, in Santa Clara, Calif. It was the final regular-season game for both teams.
After Santa Clara (13-11, 2-5 WWPA) took a 1-0 lead midway through the first quarter, the Falcons answered as Mike Miller scored on a penalty shot at 3:28. The Broncos scored the next two goals for a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Broncos scored the first two goals of the second quarter and held a 5-1 lead. Campbell Harris scored a pair of goals late in the second as the Falcons trailed 7-3 at the half.
Santa Clara scored the first three goals of the third quarter for a 10-3 lead. Miller netted his second of the game in the third quarter, but the Broncos scored the next three for a 13-4 advantage. Grant Snyder scored late in the third quarter and Miller scored early in the fourth to cut the SC lead to 13-6. After a Bronco goal for a 14-6 lead, the Falcons rallied for the next five goals to cut the deficit to 14-11 with 2:42 remaining. During the run, Snyder scored two, Miller scored two and Gavin Jones added one. That was as close as the Falcons would get as SC scored with 1:11 left to make up the final score.
Miller led the Falcons with five goals while Snyder scored three and Harris had two. On the two-game road trip, Snyder and Miller each had seven goals.
Air Force (10-16, 1-6 WWPA) is now idle until the WWPA Tournament, Nov. 22-24, in Riverside, Calif.
