Air Force Drops 70-59 Contest to San Diego

Riley Snyder paced Air Force women’s basketball with 18 points on the game
USAF Academy, Colo. - A late rally came up short as the Falcons dropped a 70-59 contest to the University of San Diego, Saturday afternoon in Clune Arena. Air Force drops to 1-3 overall as they prepare for an early game next week.
Sophomore forward Riley Snyder paced the Falcons for the third-straight game, scoring 18 points for her second-best scoring mark of the season and third-straight double-figure scoring performance. Snyder also collected seven rebounds on the day and shot a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Snyder averages 14.0 points-per-game and is currently shooting .923 (12-13) from the line this season.
Emily Conroe was Air Force's leading rebounder as the junior co-captain snagged nine rebounds while scoring 15 points and tallying two assists. Conroe has been on the cusp of double-double performances for three-straight games now, she leads all Falcons with 9.8 rebounds-per-game and averages 11.0 points.
Sophomore forward Haley Jones continued to fill her role as a significant rebounder, snagging eight on the day. Freshman teammate Allyah Marlett is starting to find her comfort zone on the floor as the Colorado native scored eight points and collected five boards. She averages 6.3 points and rebounds-per game.
Air Force stayed within striking distance through the first quarter, scoring 12 points to the Torero's 16, led by Snyder's five point in the opening 10 minutes. Jones snagged half of her rebound total in the opening quarter.
The Toreros' created some distance in the second quarter as they outscored Air Force, 22-11, by the time the halftime horn sounded. The Falcons shot just 27-percent from the field in the quarter but hit 5-6 free throw attempts. Air Force headed to the halftime locker room at a 15-point deficit, 38-23.
Air Force was significantly more competitive in the second half, outscoring San Diego 36-32, led by Snyder's 11 second-half points. Conroe broke out in the second half as well, snagging seven boards and scoring seven points. The Falcons climbed out of a 21-point deficit but ran out of real estate on the clock as they cut the Toreros' lead to 11 at the final horn.
San Diego had four players with double-figure scoring marks, led by Leticia Soares who scored 16 points while shooting 75-percent from the field. San Diego made their money in the paint, scoring 42 points down low and only attempting one three-ball on the game.
Next up, The Falcons will travel up I-25 North to take on Northern Colorado at 7 p.m., Tuesday (Nov. 19) in Greeley, Colorado. In last season's meeting at USAFA, the Falcons beat the Bears, 69-57, snapping an eight-game losing streak to UNC.
