Kaelin Immel led Air Force women’s basketball with a season-high 23 points
GREELEY, Colo. - Air Force fell to Northern Colorado, 72-62, Tuesday evening at The Bank of Colorado Arena, dropping to 1-4 overall on the season. The Bears improve to a two-game win streak for a 3-2 mark in their first five games.
Junior co-team captain Kaelin Immel paced the Falcons with a season-high 23 points on the night, marking the Falcons' highest scoring mark and the only 20-point performance of the season so far. Immel shot 49-percent from the field and added a team-high two three-pointers to her stat line.
Emily Conroe, Air Force's leading rebounder, snagged a team-high nine rebounds while scoring nine points, marking the fifth-straight game this season coming within one bucket and rebound of a double-double.
Sophomore Riley Snyder scored 14 points for her fourth-straight double-figure scoring performance this season. Snyder continued to shoot well from the free throw line, knocking down a team high four-of-five attempts, to maintain a free throw shooting-percentage over .900 on the season. Sophomore teammate Haley Jones led the Falcons with three assists and four steals on the night.
The Falcons' freshmen bunch, who average 21.2 points-per-game on the season, combined for 13 points on the night, led by Kamri Heath with six points.
The Bears were led by Kadie Deaton's 18 points while Jasmine Gayles and Alisha Davis also recorded double-figure scoring marks. The Northern Colorado bench combined for 22 points on the night.
Air Force was the first to light the scoreboard but Northern Colorado responded with a 10-2 run leading up to the first media timeout (4:14). The Falcons closed the deficit to three-points in the final minute but UNC re-extended with a three-ball to close the quarter with a 16-10 lead. Air Force struggled shooting in the opening 10-minutes, knocking down only 18-percent of shots from the field.
The Falcons rallied in the second quarter, improving field goal shooting to 47-percent (7-15) while scoring 12 points off the fast break. Immel paced the Falcons with 12 points at the halftime horn while Conroe had a game-high seven rebounds and two steals. UNC shot 90-percent from the free throw line (10-11) in the first half.
Air Force continued to rally into the second half, going on a 9-2 scoring run from the final minute of the second quarter into the first two minutes of the third quarter. UNC, determined to stall the Falcons' scoring run, went on a 10-4 scoring run of their own heading into the media timeout. Immel, who had 17 points at the end of the quarter, drained a crucial three-ball to bring the Falcons within three points at the 4:03 mark. Air Force shooting from the field took a dive as the Falcons hit only 4-of-18 third quarter attempts while also struggling at the free throw line, sinking two-of-six attempts. Starting freshman guard Kamri Heath entered foul trouble in the waning seconds of the quarter.
