Falcons travel to California for pair of WWPA games

The Falcons play at Fresno Pacific, Nov. 8, and Santa Clara, Nov. 10
This Week: Air Force (9-15 overall, 0-5 WWPA) travels to California for a pair of conference games. The Falcons face Fresno Pacific (7-18, 0-4 WWPA) on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 pm PT in Fresno, Calif. Air Force then plays Santa Clara (11-11, 0-5 WWPA) on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 12 pm PT.

Series Records: Air Force and FPU meet for the 12th time and the Falcons hold a 10-1 lead in the series that began in 2010. Air Force has won five straight in the series. The Falcons defeated the Sunbirds, 20-14, last season at the Academy. Air Force and Santa Clara will meet for the 58th time and the Falcons hold a 44-13 lead in the series that began in 1971. Air Force has won four straight in the series, including two wins last season (18-13 at the Academy and 15-14 at the SoCal Invitational).
Last Weekend: California Baptist, ranked 19th in the nation, came from behind for a 12-10 overtime win over Air Force in a WWPA game, Nov. 2, at the Cadet Natatorium. Air Force struck first when Luke Andres scored from Reagan Pittman on the man-advantage at 7:30 of the first period. Sam Fuller gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead, on another assist by Pittman, at 6:55. After a CBU goal, Grant Snyder gave the Falcons a 3-1 lead at 5:04. Pittman scored at 4:07 for a 4-1 Falcon lead. After a pair of Lancer goals, Andres scored from Fuller for a 5-3 AF lead after one period. CBU scored twice in the second period to tie the score at 5-5 at the half. The Falcons fell behind 9-8 in the fourth quarter, but Mike Miller scored on the power play from Andres with 1:12 left to tie the game. With time winding down. CBU's Christian Britton took a shot that was saved by Anthony Tolbert to force overtime. In the first overtime period, Zach Lowery scored for the Lancers, but Reagan Pittman scored for the Falcons with 57 seconds to tie the game at 1-1. In the second overtime period, CBU scored twice as Joseph Galgani scored at 2:06 and Joseph Griffin scored at 1:26 for the 12-10 win.
So close: Of Air Force's 15 losses this season, seven have been by two goals or less with five of them coming against teams ranked in the top 20. In conference play, four of the last five losses have been by two goals or less, including two in overtime and three of them against ranked teams.
The Helping Hand: Senior Reagan Pittman leads the conference and is third in the nation with 52 assists this season. Pittman also leads the team with 65 points. He has two or more assists in 14 games this season, including a career-best six against La Verne, Chapman and UC Davis. In the win over Brown, he had a career-high four goals. Pittman also leads the team with 12 field blocks and is second on the team with 26 steals this season.
The Water Cheetah: Senior Mike Miller's speed has gained Air Force the first possession more times than not. Miller leads the nation with 71 sprint victories this season. Miller is 71-9 in sprints this season, and his .888 winning percentage is the best in the conference (among players who have more than 30 sprints). Miller is also 10th in the league in goals scored with 44, including a career-high six in the win over Chapman.
Between the Pipes: Sophomore Anthony Tolbert ranks sixth in the league in saves (176) and third in steals (34). He made a season-high 12 saves against No. 8 Long Beach State, Sept. 22. He has had 11 twice four times season, including the last two games against Concordia and UC San Diego.
