Air Force Women's Hoops Hosts UNLV in Wednesday Contest

The Air Force women's basketball team will tip off against the Lady Rebels at 7 p.m., in Clune Arena
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 13:
Following a Saturday (Jan. 9) bye, the Falcons return to action at home against UNLV, Weds., February 13. The Falcons and Lady Rebels will be tipping off for the second time this season at 7 p.m. MT. Air Force, who is 7-3 when playing at home, will be aiming to redeem the Jan. 16 loss in Las Vegas.
THE SERIES WITH UNLV:
UNLV leads Air Force in the all-time series, 41-5.

Three Falcons have double-figure scoring averages in MWC-only play, led by Kaelin Immel, who registered a career-high 30-point game in the win against San Jose State (Jan. 26).
LAST TIME OUT:
Air Force competed hard but was unable to keep up with Wyoming, falling to the Cowgirls, 80-60, Wednesday evening in Arena Auditorium. The Falcons were paced by freshman guard Briana Autrey who dropped 19 points on the night.
Air Force got off to a hot start, shooting perfect (4-4) for the first 2:20 while going bucket-for-bucket with the Mountain West powerhouse. As Wyoming began to settle in to a speedy offense, Air Force was unable to keep pace with the Pokes. Wyoming maintained their lead for the remaining 37-minutes of play.
Autrey's 21-point performance was the most by any individual on the evening, marking her third twenty-plus scoring game of the season. She was just two points shy of her season high. The Suffolk, Virginia, native also added three assists, two rebounds and a block to her stat line.
Sophomores Kaelin Immel and Emily Conroe made significant contributions in the game, combining for 21 points. Immel dropped the second-most points with 12 for her 14th double-figure scoring performance of the season, ninth in league play. Conroe, who is the team's leading rebounder in MWC action, collected nine rebounds in addition to her nine points and a block. She barely missed the mark for her third double-double of the season.
Freshman forward Haley Jones remained consistent in the Falcons' starting lineup, registering eight points, two steals and an assist. Air Force's bench combined for eight points via Noelle Tomes' and Michaela McFalls' four points apiece.
Despite the loss, Air Force shot 42.6 percent from the field on the night, a mark noticeably greater than its season average. The Falcons also held the Cowgirls to only three three-balls on the game, tying a season low for the Pokes who average 8.5 three-pointers per game. The Falcons' 11 turnovers was the best mark they've had all season as they average 19 turnovers per game this year. Wyoming committed 15 turnovers on the game
THE GOOD:
-Home wins: Air Force has a .700 win-percentage win playing at home, and a .800 conference win-percentage on the home court
-In the MWC: Air Force leads the MWC in offensive rebounds, up from the second position last week, rebounding 14.9 offensive boards per game. The Cadets are second in the league in three-point field goal defense, holding teams well below their 3fg% average-- most recently, Air Force held the Cowgirls to only three three-balls on the game, tying a season low for the Pokes who average 8.5 three-pointers per game. The Falcons also have the third-best mark in the conference in steals per game (10.1)
-At the Line: Free throw shooting has improved considerably from .591 in non-conference play to .698 in league action
-Standings: The Falcons are sitting in eighth place in the MWC standings, ahead of Nevada, Colorado State, and San Jose State.
-Youth: Two sophomores and three freshmen made up the Falcons' starting five in the last game. The same five account for Air Force's top-five scorers. As this team continues to develop, expect Air Force to make significant gains with each passing season.

-Shooting: In the MWC, Air Force is tied with Nevada for the lowest three-point percentage (.283), and has absolute lowest field-goal percentage (.361) and free-throw percentage (.640).
-Turnovers: Air Force turns the ball over twice as many times as assists the make for the lowest assist/turnover ratio in the MWC. The Falcons averaged 18.8 turnovers per game in non-conference play and have maintained that number through league play to date.
-Road Games: The Falcons are 1-11 on the road this season and have not seen victory over a league opponent while playing away games.

Freshman guard Haley Jones had a strong performance, scoring a team-high 13 points to tie her personal-best mark for the third time. Jones also snagged a career-best seven steals while shooting 5-11 from the field for the best shooting-percentage on the team.
Sophomore co-captain Kaelin Immel had 12 points and led the team with five rebounds and three assists while sophomore teammate Emily Conroe dropped 11 points while shooting a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line. The Falcons' bench combined for 24 points led by Noelle Tomes with five points.
Air Force's defense caused the Rebels to turn the ball over 27 times while the Falcons gave up the ball 17 times. UNLV crashed the boards, collecting 41 rebounds to Air Force's 25. The Rebels shot 47.7 percent from the field while the Falcons shot 30.2 percent.
The Rebels were led by Katie Powell who scored 19 points and collected a game-high 11 rebounds. Two Rebels had double-figure scoring performances.

THE LADY REBELS' LAST GAME:
UNLV battled Fresno State for the first three quarters and entered the fourth quarter with a one-point lead Saturday afternoon, but the Lady Rebels then went stone cold from the floor in the final quarter on the way to a 73-55 road loss in the Save Mart Center in Mountain West women's basketball action. The loss dropped UNLV to 5-6 in league play, tied for fifth with Utah State, while the Bulldogs improved to 8-3 in the MW.
UNLV was ahead 49-48 at the end of the third quarter, and had shot 48.8% from the floor up to that point. What followed was the worst shooting performance in a quarter in school history for the Lady Rebels, as they missed all 13 shots they attempted from the floor. UNLV would score just six points, all at the free throw line. On the other side, Fresno State had also shot 48.8% after three quarters, but exploded in the fourth by knocking down 8-of-11 from the floor. That lead to the Bulldogs winning the fourth by a 25-6 margin.
The game had been close throughout the first 30 minutes. The largest lead of the first quarter came when UNLV hit a jumper at the buzzer by Nikki Wheatley for a 19-15 lead. The Bulldogs opened up a three-point lead twice in the second quarter, until Alyssa Anderson hit a buzzer-beating trey to make the score 37-37 at halftime. UNLV used a 9-0 in the third quarter to go back ahead, at one point holding the Bulldogs scoreless for a 6:24 span.
