Women’s Gymnastics with a Pair of First Place Finishes at Home Tri-Meet

Anna Salamone and Briona Carswell scored 9.9+ to win first in the bars and beam, respectively
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Anna Salamone and Briona Carswell led the Falcons with first-place finishes in a tri-meet with Seattle Pacific and Illinois State, Saturday afternoon, in Cadet West Gym at the Academy. The Falcons, who finished third in a tight team race, posted a 193.425 team score behind Seattle Pacific (193.750) and Illinois State (193.650).
VAULT (48.625)
Air Force opened up tri-meet action on the vault where Salamone led the Falcons with a 9.800 and second-place finish in a field of 18 vaulters. Heidi Sand (9.750), Daija Stevenson (9.725) and Grace Bardes (9.700) finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Brooke Bruder finished in a two-way tie for ninth with a 9.650 and Amber Boll finished 16th with a 9.525.
The Falcons collectively scored a 48.625 in the event for second place. Illinois State won the event with a 48.425 led by a pair of 9.800 finishes. Seattle Pacific finished third with 48.300.
UNEVEN BARS (48.500)*
Air Force posted a season-high 48.500 on the bars led by Salamone's 9.925 and first-place finish, her second 9.9+ this season. Teammates Boll and Bardes finished in a three-way tie for fourth with 9.775, Bardes' career-best score in the event. Pixie Brock finished in a three-way tie for 10th with a 9.675 while Stevenson (9.350) and Jessica Kirkpatrick (8.975) finished 15th and 17th, respectively.
The Falcons finished second in the event while Illinois State finished first with a 48.750 and SPU finished third with a 48.150.
BALANCE BEAM (47.425)
Freshman Briona Carswell led the Falcons on the balance beam with a career-high 9.900, the first of her collegiate career. Stevenson finished second with a season-best 9.825. Boll finished in a two-way tie for ninth with a 9.625 while Brock (9.050), Val Smith (9.025) and Came Stapleton (8.850) finished 14th, 15th and 18th, respectively.
Illinois State led the event with a 48.750 while Seattle Pacific took second with a 48.400. Air Force finished third with a 47.425.
FLOOR EXERCISE (48.875)*
The Falcons excelled in their final event of the night, seeing a career best 9.850 and second-place finish from Natalie Meyer and personal-best tying marks from Brock and Stapleton (9.800), who finished in a four-way tie for fifth. Bruder finished ninth with a 9.775 and Salamone finished tied for 15th with a 9.650.
The Falcons finished second in the event with a season-high 48.875 behind SPU's 48.900 and in front of Illinois State's 48.775.
Next up, the Falcons continue action in the home gym as Air Force plays host to UC Davis and Wisconsin-Whitewater for a Pink Meet, Saturday (Feb. 15), at 2 p.m. MT. The Pink Meet will also serve as Colorado Club Day where club gymnasts 8th grade and under will have the chance to participate in the march-out as well as a chance to compete in a handstand contest as the conclusion of the meet. Young gymnasts wishing to take part in the march out should arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. All fans are encouraged to wear pink.
