SHREVEPORT – Air Force scored a season-high 192.625 for a second place finish in the Gold Dome at Centenary College, Sunday evening. Texas Woman's University led the field with a 195.125 while meet hosts Centenary finished third with a 186.725.
"We are learning to fight from beginning to end of the competition," head coach Jennifer Green said. "We worked hard to stay in the moment—be right here, right now. I thought we did a great job of picking ourselves up after mistakes. We are moving in the right direction."
The Falcons posted season high team scores on the vault (48.275) the uneven bars (48.100) and the floor exercise (48.275).
Air Force junior Daija Stevenson had a stellar night with three first place finishes including a career-high 39.125 for a first-place finish in the all-around field. Stevenson posted 9.825 marks on the floor exercise (1st) and balance beam (three-way tie for 1st), season-best numbers in both events. She rounded out her total score with a 9.750 on the uneven bars (4th) and a 9.725 on the vault (three-way tie for 4th).
Senior Cam Barber had a fantastic night on the uneven bars, scoring a career-high 9.825 for her first first-place finish this season.
Sophomore beam specialist Briona Carswell remains consistent in the 2021 campaign, scoring a 9.800 in the event for a two-way tie for fourth. She has scored 9.800 or more in three-of-four meets this season.
Other Falcons to score season-best numbers were Pixie Brock (FX, 9.725), Jessica Kirkpatrick (V, 9.725), Lauren Miller (UB, 9.700) and Heidi Sand (V, 9.750).
Next up, Air Force heads to St. Charles, Missouri, to compete in the Gym Quarters Invitational alongside Lindenwood, Illinois State, Southeast Missouri, Ball State and Eastern Michigan. Action is slated to start at 6 p.m. CT in the St. Charles Family Arena.
