Frankie Valentin became the seventh Air Force gymnast to earn academic honors every year.
WOODLAND, Calif. – A program-record 10 members of the Air Force men's gymnastics team earned All-Academic Scholar-Athlete honors from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, executive director Al Beaird announced this morning (April 8). Highlighted by seven repeat selections, the Falcons' 10 selections easily surpassed last year's record of eight.
Securing his third-straight selection with a 3.29 GPA, senior Frankie Valentin became the seventh gymnast in program history to be named an All-Academic Scholar-Athlete during each year of eligibility.
Six Falcons claimed academic accolades for the second-straight year – a tally that brought the number of Air Force gymnasts who have earned multiple awards to 20. Seniors Brandon Bzoskie (3.23), Allen Shadan (3.15) and Brian Waschak (3.90), as well as juniors Beckett Andersen (3.37), Noah Everett (3.35) and Alex Schechtman (3.61), all claimed their second MPSF distinction in as many years. Three juniors – Cason Couch (3.92), Colin Douglas (3.51) and Edwin Kust (3.07) – also earned their first academic honor, with Couch holding the fourth-highest grade-point average in the league.
Air Force's 10 selections were ranked second amongst the league schools, as a total of 34 gymnasts received academic honors from the MPSF during the 2021 season. To be considered a MPSF All-Academic Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must hold a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or higher, be at least a sophomore academically, and completed one full academic year completed at the institution prior to the season for which the award is received.
