Air Force Downed By Texas A&M-Commerce In Overtime

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force men's basketball dropped a 73-69 contest in overtime to Texas A&M-Commerce (1-2) Monday night at Clune Arena. Sophomore guard Jake Heidbreder led the Falcons with 16 points and freshman forward Rytis Petraitis recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Air Force rallied back from a 10-point deficit in the second half to get to overtime. The Falcons got up by six at the start of overtime, but Texas A&M-Commerce rallied back with a 12-2 run to close out the overtime period.
Facing the pressure defense of Commerce, Air Force trailed 31-28 at the half. The Lions got up by 10 with 11 minutes left in the second half. Air Force rallied to tie the game with a 10-0 run to make it 50-50 with 6:28 to play.
The Falcons briefly led by a point twice, before TAMUC got back up by two. The Falcons tied the game up with seven seconds in regulation on a Nikc Jackson dunk off a sideline inbounds play to send it into overtime.
Heidbreder reached double-figures for the third straight game to start the season. He was 4 of 9 from the field and 2 of 6 from three-point range. He also got to the line eight times, making six.
Petraitis notched his double-double in just 20 minutes off the bench. The freshman also corralled three offensive rebounds and was 5 of 7 from the field.
Joining in double-figures was sophomore guard Jeffrey Mills, who tied a career-high with 13 points and four rebounds. Mills also led the Falcons with four assists. Senior forward Nikc Jackson added seven points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Ethan Taylor had a career-high five steals.
The Falcons shot 45.3 percent from the field, 57.7 percent from the free throw line and 27.3 percent from three.
Guard Demarcus Demonia led Commerce with 25 points and four three's. Guard Kalen Williams added 13 points and C.J. Roberts scored 11.
Air Force returns to action Thursday, Nov. 17, hosting Portland. The game tips at 7 pm MT and will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
