Air Force Rolls To 83-56 Win Over USC-Upstate In Collegiate Hoops Roadshow Game

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force men's basketball (2-3) rolled to a 83-56 win over USC-Upstate (2-3) as part of the Collegiate Hoops Roadshow Multi-team Event Monday night at Clune Arena. Freshman Corbin Green recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds in his first-career game and senior guard Camden Vander Zwaag erupted for a career-high 20 points in the win.
Air Force jumped on top right from the get-go, never trailing in the game. The Falcons shot 59 percent from the field in the opening half to jump ahead 45-26 in its highest scoring half of the season. Air Force also out-rebounded Upstate 23-8 in the opening half.
The Falcons kept it up in the second-half, out-scoring the Spartans 38-30 in the later half. For the game, the Falcons shot a season-high 51.9 percent. Its 83 points were the most since scoring 95 points against San Jose State in 2020. Air Force was dominant on the boards, out-rebounding Upstate 44-22.
A season-high four Falcons reached double-figures in scoring, led by Green. The Midlothian, Texas, native was close to a triple double, adding six assists to his scoring and rebounding numbers in the start at forward.
Vander Zwaag surpassed his previous career high of 14 points with 15 in the first half. He finished with four three's and six rebounds, which both tied his career-bests.
Sophomore guard Jake Heidbreder scored 16 points and dished our four assists. Freshman forward Rytis Petraitis scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds in 14 minutes in reserve.
A pair of sophomores also made their collegiate debuts for the Falcons. Forward Beau Becker notched three points in four minutes and forward Chase Beasley pulled down a rebound.
USC-Upstate was led by guard Jordan Gainey, who scored 19 points. Guard Trae Broadnax added 11 points. The Spartans shot 43 percent from the field and struggled at the line, making just 40 percent from the charity stripe.
Air Force returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 23, hosting Mississippi Valley State as part of the Collegiate Roadshow. The game tips at 4 pm MT and will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
