OMAHA, Neb.- Crafting a strong team performance on both sides of the pitch, Air Force concluded its out-of-conference schedule with a 1-0 win over Nebraska-Omaha.
"It's always tough to pick up points on the road, and today was no different in the heat," said head coach Laura Busby. "We had to utilize a lot of players off the bench and I thought this was a total team effort."
After a scoreless first-half, Air Force wasted little time making its mark after the halftime break. Raine Komata picked up her second goal of the season in the 47th minute, assisted by Alexa Ramthun. The goal becomes Komata's second game-winner in the Falcons three wins, while Ramthun's assist was the first of her collegiate career.
The Falcons did implement a gameplan based on depth, as Air Force saw 14 players compile at least 40 minutes on the pitch.
Coach Busby's group was the more offensive side, providing eight shots in both halves. Air Force managed nine shots on goal to just three for the Mavericks, with Jenna Rubidoux leading the Falcons with two shots on goal. The Falcons nine shots on goal came from eight different players.
"We looked more dangerous in the final third throughout the second-half, and credit to our freshman Raine Komata for netting another game-winner," said Busby. "We still have a lot of work to do but I feel really positive about where we are heading into Mountain West play."
Air Force will make its foray into its conference schedule later this week when the Falcons travel to San Jose State on Thursday, September 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm MT.
