Cameron Harris Headlines Final Day of Bryan Clay Invitational
4/15/2023 11:52:00 PM | Track and Field
AZUSA, Calif. – Air Force senior Cameron Harris recorded the second-fastest 110-meter hurdles time in Academy history on Saturday, April 15, as the track and field team wrapped up a successful weekend of Southern California competition during the final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational.
AIR FORCE TOP-10 MARKS
No. 2 – Cameron Harris, 110-Meter Hurdles (13.73)
No. 7 – Sean Maison, 1500-Meter Run (3:43.03)
While the Bryan Clay Invitational is known for distance running, the meet left its mark in Air Force hurdling history today, as Harris became just the fourth Falcon to ever run a sub-14 in the 110-meter event. Improving his overall time by 0.27 seconds, the senior won the 28-runner event with a blazing time of 13.73 – the second-fastest time in Academy history and a mark that knocked 0.07 seconds off the Air Force Senior Class Record that Sean Temple had held for the last 19 years.
Improvements to the Academy Record Book continued once the sun went down and the lights came on over Cougar Stadium, as five Falcons competed in Saturday's 1500-Meter Distance Carnival. Senior Sam Gilman, who already holds the program standard of 3:40.39, clocked an outdoor-opening 3:41.71 to finish 44th out 166 runners in the Invitational section of the race. Juniors Sean Maison and Eli Bennett also competed in the Invitational section, clocking two of the Top 15 times in Academy history. Maison raced to a career-best 3:43.03 to move into seventh on the program's all-time standings and finish 55th in the overall field, while Bennett won his section in 3:45.16 to place 85th overall and vault from 25th to 13th on the Academy's all-time standings. Freshman Ethan Ashley, competing in his first national race, posted a personal-best time of 3:52.70 to finish 39th out of nearly 200 runners in the men's Open B section, while senior Maddie Edwards, running in the women's Open A, clocked a career-best 4:30.83 to move in 16th on the program's all-time standings and finish 36th out of 188 runners.
In addition, junior Katie Thompson, who set the Academy Record in the long jump on Thursday in Long Beach, recorded the second-best mark of her season today in Azusa, as she posted a leap of 18'7¾" to finish in the top 20 of the 51-jumper event. Following the long jump competition, Thompson debuted on the program's all-time standings in the 200-meter dash, as she raced to a personal-best 25.95 – a mark that matches Lesly Torres' No. 23 time from 2012.
Air Force returns to action – and California – next weekend (April 21-22) for the Payton Jordan Invitational.
