Air Force women's tennis opens its 2024 dual season on Friday afternoon, hosting North Dakota at the USAFA indoor courts in the Cadet Gym at 5:30 p.m. The Falcons waste little time getting into dual play, as they follow up their home opener with a trip to Denver to also face the Pioneers at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The new-look Falcons, led by first-year head coach Taylor Hollander, aim to build upon the progress they attained in the fall as the team portion of their 2023-24 season gets underway and Mountain West competition lies ahead. Through Air Force's final three fall tournaments (ITA Regional, Oct. 18-20, All-Academy Challenge, Oct. 27-29, Colorado Cup, Nov. 11-12), the Falcons notched 11 wins in singles and eight doubles victories, closing the fall season at 12 15 wins in both respective stages of competition.
North Dakota:
The Fighting Hawks, selected to finish third in Summit League play, finished 11-13 in 2022 duals, falling to then-No. 44 Denver in the Summit championship. At Grand Forks last season, the Falcons came away with a 5-2 win over North Dakota, with both Isabella Flodin (vs. Andrea Jansson - 1-6, 6-1, 6-4) and Arianna Van Houweling (vs. Angela Georgieva, 6-0, 6-3) both earning singles victories. Odom, along with graduate Sydney Fitch, earned a doubles victory over veteran competitors Sapir Sela/Jansson, 6-3.
Denver:
The nine-time back-to-back Summit League Champion Denver Pioneers open their dual schedule hosting the Falcons on Saturday after closing 2022-23 with seven-straight wins, a 6-0 mark in league competition and an 18-5 overall finish.
2022-23 Dual Recap:
Ther 2022-23 Falcons competed their dual season with a 12-12 overall record and 6-4 mark in Mountain West play. Air Force notched a four-seed in the 2023 Mountain West Championships and earned a pair of 4-3 wins against both No. 5 CSU and No. 8 San Jose, on the way to its first-ever appearance in the championship match, in which the Falcons fell, 4-1, to two-seed UNLV.
The Falcons finished the 2023 dual season with a 12-1 team record against the Mountain West in doubles play – A streak which started with their conference opener against UNLV (March 25) and lasted through regular-season play, ending in the title match against the Lady Rebels. The Falcons closed their season a combined 41-19 in dual doubles and 56-72 in singles action.
