Falcons Set to Open Season at AFXC Classic
8/29/2024 10:36:00 AM | Cross Country
The Air Force cross country team, which includes a men's squad that is receiving votes in the national poll, kicks off the 2024 campaign this weekend, when it hosts the AFXC Classic on Friday, Aug. 30.
MEET INFORMATION
The AFXC Classic will take place at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. (MT). Spectators driving from the Academy should take I-25 south to Fillmore Stree (exit 145). After exiting the interstate, turn left onto W. Fillmore Stree, right onto N. Cascade Ave., and right onto E. Fontenaro Street. Parking is located along Fontenaro and the playground is located down the hill. The men will run five miles, while the women will run three.
LOOK WHO'S BACK
The women return their top-three finishes from the 2023 team the placed third at the conference championships, including a pair of all-MW runners in Halle Hamilton and Ally Peterson. Hamilton – a two-time NCAA Qualifier – is one of five Falcons with experience at the national championships, as the men roster includes Jayden Nats, Jason Renze, and Max Sannes from last year's 12th-place NCAA team, and Bryce Lentz, who scored for Air Force during their seventh-place run in 2022.
MEN SECOND, WOMEN THIRD IN MOUNTAIN WEST PRESEASON RANKINGS
08-28-24 | With 55 points and two first-place votes, the men were picked second out of nine teams in the Mountain West Preseason Poll. On the women's side, Air Force recorded 84 points for a No. 3 spot in the 11-team field.
MEN RECEIVING VOTES IN USTFCCCA PRESEASON POLL
08-27-24 | With 21 points, the men are the top "Also Receiving Votes" team in the USTFCCCA Preseason Coaches' Poll – and just two points out of the Top 30. It is the 56th-straight poll where the Falcons have been mentioned in the national conversation (either ranked or receiving votes) – a program-record streak that dates back to the opening poll of the 2017 season. Regionally speaking, the men are sixth and the women 11th in the Mountain Region.
WELCOME TO THE TEAM
Air Force added eight men and seven women to its roster for the 2024 season with the addition of Junior Allen, Patrick Allen, Kimi Cahoon, Carrigan Eberly, Matthew Edwards, Leilani Harris, Parker Hintz, Kaylee Jenish, Cody Kelley, Colleen Kelly, Grace Mullin, Alexander Pinckney, Jasleen Sidhu, Saketh Rudraraju, and David Sliwinski.
