Opening competition on bars, the Falcons earned a 48.625, improving by over three-tenths from their previous meet. Sophomore Maggie Slife, facing steep competition in the arena, led Air Force in the event, earning a 9.850 to earn a share of third place and tie the Falcons' second-best bars score this season. Freshmen Anna Bacott and Allie Misenheimer both scored a 9.750 for a share of 13th.
Moving to floor, Slife continued to put up strong numbers for the day, earning a 9.875 and another top-two score for the Falcons' season and a second-place finish. A pair of 9.700s for both Velandra Brochi and Gabriella Meccia bought them both a piece of 11th.
On balance beam, Air Force put up its highest event total of the afternoon, scoring a 48.825. Slife and Junior Kylee Greene both earned a 9.850 and 9.800 on the way to finishing in fifth and sixth, respectively. Junior Gabriella Hartley, though only showing in exhibition on beam, scored a 9.825, which would have proven a career best.
On vault, Air Force scored a 48.425. Junior Kylee Greene led Falcon scores with a 9.775, good for a second-place finish. Slife followed up Greene on the scoresheet, earning a 9.750 and a share of third place.
In the all-around, Slife finished second on the day, scoring a 39.325 and coming up just behind UC Davis' Amelia Moneymaker's 39.400. Slife, the Falcons' top performer of the day, earned top-three finishes in four events.
Head Coach Jennifer Green's Thoughts on Sunday Afternoon:
"This team has had a lot thrown at them the last week or so. Collectively, they have pulled together and I'm super proud of them. We seemed a little flat today. We overcame some mistakes and fought through some challenges. We had athletes in situations they haven't been in before. We handled it with grace, and we can get better with intentionality.
"I'm not sure if it was the week off or the outside circumstances, however we weren't as crisp as we have been. But it's a short week for us, so the team has already rallied together to create a focus moving forward. I asked them what they needed from the staff and their teammates to make the quick switch. We all need to watch our film, look within to figure out how to continue to lift each other up and be the 10 teammate everyone needs.
"We can't let the outside distractions or scores cloud our focus - it's all about accomplishing our goals and commitments!
"We had some firsts tonight. Rosa (Juarez Baez) was back as an exhibition on vault—she did a fabulous vault. Gabi Hartley was an exhibition on balance beam and killed it! That confidence will serve us well in the future. And Patience Miyashiro had her first collegiate appearance in bars. I was impressed with her fight, she showed lots of grit."
