ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Air Force senior pommel horse specialist Patrick Hoopes claimed gold at the USAG Collegiate Nationals this afternoon (March 29), as the men's gymnastics team wrapped up a full weekend of competition at Halsey Field House with five USAG All-America awards during the individual event finals.
Hoopes scored a 14.750 in the finals to easily capture his third-straight USAG Collegiate title – bettering the finals' field by 1.40 points.
Hoopes was one of four Falcons to claim USAG All-America honors in the event championships on Saturday, with senior Charlie Miles leading the quartet behind a pair of USAG accolades. A runner-up finish on the parallel bars (13.400) highlighted the day for Miles, while the senior also placed sixth on the still rings behind a score of 12.600. Freshman Jared Fry earned his first USAG All-America honor after finishing fifth on the floor exercise (13.000), while junior Tai Gopaul rounded out the Falcons' list of top-six finishers with a sixth-place score of 12.500 on the high bar.
In addition to their medalist performance, Gopaul finished seventh on the parallel bars (12.900) and Miles earned the same finish on the high bar (11.850). Senior Erich Upton, who captured USAG All-America honors in the all-around yesterday, competed in the event finals of the vault and still rings today, placing seventh (13.700) and eighth (12.200), respectively, while junior Jack Matlock rounded out the list of Falcons that competed in the event finals, as she scored an 11.800 to place eighth on the pommel horse.
Air Force returns to action – and the Academy – next weekend, when it hosts the 2025 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Gymnastics Championships at Cadet West Gym on Saturday, April 5. The meet, which will feature Air Force, California, Oklahoma and Stanford, is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. (MT). Tickets can be purchased online at AFTickets.com.
