U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Bentley scored two goals in the second period and held off Air Force for a 3-1 win in an Atlantic Hockey America game Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Cadet Ice Arena. Bentley swept the two-game series.
Air Force (10-10-2, 6-7-1 AHA) took its first lead of the series on sophomore defenseman Beau Janzig's first career goal. Sam Stitz won a battle behind the net and Will Dawson set up Janzig in the right circle at 6:35. Air Force held Bentley to two shots in the first period, the fewest since the Falcons held Brown to zero shots in the second period on Oct. 31, 2025.
Early in the second period, Bentley (12-6-2, 11-1-2 AHA) scored two goals in a span of 59 seconds to take a 2-1 lead. In a delayed penalty situation, and on the rush, Michael Mesic scored with a wrister from the left circle at 1:50 to tie the game. Bentley took a 2-1 lead when Jake Black blocked a shot in his own end to start the rush. Mesic's shot was saved but Black put back the rebound at 2:49.
Bentley clung to the one-goal lead until late in the third period when Air Force pulled the goalie with 3:08 remaining. Black netted an empty-netter from his own end with 1:31 left to seal the win.
"Our team showed up tonight," head coach Frank Serratore said. "We didn't show up last night, but we showed up tonight and played our game. We put our best foot forward, but we just didn't get any puck luck tonight. The team that showed up for Air Force tonight needs to show up every night. Their goalie was terrific and they blocked a lot of shots. This was a hard-fought game."
Air Force outshot Bentley, 30-16, in the game. Each team was 0-for-3 on the power play. Dominik Wasik made 13 saves for the Falcons while Lukas Swedin made 29 for the visitors from Waltham, Mass.
Air Force travel to Holy Cross for a two-game league series, Jan. 16-17, in Worcester, Mass.
