U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Arizona State goalie Evan DeBrouwer stopped all 15 shots he faced to lead the Sun Devils to a 3-0 win over Air Force in a non-conference game, Friday, Oct. 18, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
After a scoreless first period, ASU took the lead at 6:23 of the second. Filips Buncis took a shot from the right point that bounced off the back wall and came out in front of the net. Tyler Busch was there to score his first of the season.
The Sun Devils clung to the 1-0 lead until the middle of the third period. Joshua Maniscalco dumped a puck deep in the zone and Johnny Walker retrieved it. He sent the puck across to James Sanchez, who gave it right back to him on the back door. Walker netted his fourth of the season at 12:08 for a 2-0 lead. With 2:42 left, the Falcons pulled the goalie in favor of the extra attacker. As Air Force was breaking out of his own end, Willie Knierim knocked down a puck in the neutral zone and scored into the empty net from the blue line with 1:28 left.
ASU outshot Air Force, 23-15, in the game. Each team was 0-for-4 on the power play. Zach LaRocque made 20 saves for the Falcons.
"This is really frustrating for all of us," head coach Frank Serratore said. "They are a good team, but it is frustrating not to score. We have a lot to work on and we have a long way to go. The bottom line is we have to get a lot better before we can think about winning."
