Last Time Out
The Falcons split its second weekend of Mountain West Conference action, defeating Wyoming, 3-2, before falling to Colorado State, 1-0 in a defensive battle. Three different Falcons scored against the Cowgirls, as junior Emma Nelson netted her second, junior Jillian Jamero her fourth, and freshman Lexi Romero her team-leading ninth.
Freshman Sensation
Freshman Lexi Romero could not have asked for a much better start to her career, as the forward leads the team with nine goals and 21 points. The nine goals and 21 points rank second in the conference, second only to reigning MW POTY Raimee Sherle, who has 10 and 25, respectively. In addition, her .82 goals per game and 1.91 points per game both rank first and second in the conference. She is also in the top-30 nationally in all four categories, including 19th in goals.
Potent Offense
The Falcons so far have presented one of the most potent offenses in the Mountain West Conference. They currently rank second in the conference in total points, while ranking third in the MW in points per game, scoring offense, total goals, total assists, assists per game, and shots per game.
Record Chasing
With seven games remaining, freshman Lexi Romero has her sights set on some single season records. She is just three goals away from setting the freshman record for goals in a season, while she is four away from breaking the program record of 12, set back in 1993 by Tracy Healy. In addition, she needs eight points to break the freshman record, and nine to break the program record, also held by Tracy Healy in 1993.
Up Next
The Falcons return home for a big pair of Mountain West Conference matches. The weekend begins against San Diego State, Friday, oct. 18, followed by a Sunday afternoon contest against New Mexico, Sunday, Oct. 20.
