Falcons Wrap Up Action at Jerry Quiller Classic

Hayden Bullock unleashed a throw of 178'0" to win the discus by 12 feet.
BOULDER, Colo. – Five improvements to the program's all-time standings, as well as five event titles and three team-leading finishes in all-Air Force events, highlighted the first full day of outdoor competition for the majority of the track and field team, as they wrapped up action at the Jerry Quiller Classic this afternoon (March 19) in Boulder.
A pair of freshmen debuted at No. 15 on the program's all-time standings during their respective outdoor debuts at Potts Field, as Taylor Rioux posted a 200-meter time of 25.77 to finish third in the 11-runner event and Katie Schlather cleared 11'11¾" to win the all-Air Force pole vault. Senior La'akea Aiu improved his own No. 17 time in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best, fourth-place mark of 52.67, while sophomore Ava Gilliana and senior Adrianna Wilder debuted at No. 22 (4:42.83 raw, 4:36.09a) and No. 23 (4:43.26, 4:36.51a), respectively, following top-five finishes in the 1500-meter run.

Sean Geither led the Falcons to a sweep of the top three spots in the 400-meter dash, as the senior won the race with a time of 47.85. Classmate Wyatt Murphy finished second with a time of 48.22 – a mark just 0.07 off his career best, while fellow senior Charles Dimnwaobi posted a third-place time of 48.53 in his outdoor debut in that event. In all, Air Force earned four of the top-six finishes in the 14-runner event, as senior Frank Rossi placed sixth with an outdoor event debut of 49.96.
The Falcons accounted for three of the top-four finishes in both the 110-meter hurdles and high jump, as well as half of the top-six placements in the discus throw. Sophomore Philip Hundl clocked a career-best time of 14.61 to win the high hurdles, while classmate Seth Meador took second in an event debut 14.83 and fellow sophomore Brian Hubbard placed fourth with a career-best mark of 15.49. Senior Jake Hall opened the outdoor season with a winning clearance of 6'9¾" in the high jump, while freshmen Collin Schulz and Jalan Rivers finished third and fourth, respectively, in their outdoor debuts following matching 6'6¾" performances. Junior Hayden Bullock had the Falcons' most dominant victory on Saturday, as he recorded a launch of 178'0" to win the discus throw by more than 12 feet. Junior Jace Pittman and sophomore Gerrit Tamminga joined Bullock within the top six of the 12-thrower event, as they finished fourth (personal-best 151'2") and sixth (147'10"), respectively.
Sophomore Brandon Lindner rounded out the Falcons' list of outright event winners on Saturday, as he posted a career-best distance 21'8" in the long jump. Lindner, who shared that distance with a CU athlete, secured first-place honors following a 21'6¾" leap as his second-best mark of the day during tie-breaking procedures.
Schlather's winning clearance of 11'11¾" in the pole vault came during an all-Air Force event that saw senior Ethan Gardner finish first in the men's event with a height of 15'11". In addition, the all-Academy 4x100-meter relay also saw just 0.42 seconds separate two Air Force squads, with sophomore Jackson Connelly, Dimnwaobi, Geither and junior Zac Larrier clocking the winning 42.04.
The men accounted for four of the top-eight finishes in the 1500-meter run, as well as multiple top-five finishes in both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints. The Maison twins – Scott (3:53.88) and Sean (3:56.92) – finished third and sixth, respectively, in the day's opening event, while freshman Bryce Lentz added a seventh-place debut of 3:57.20 and senior Matt Zacharias clocked a 3:57.53 to finish eighth. Sophomore John Colizzi and Hubbard finished fourth (event debut 11.20) and fifth (career-best 11.21), respectively, in the 100-meter dash, while Colizzi added a second-fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (event debut 22.21) after Connelly took third in a career-best time of 21.94.
On the women's side, freshman Ally Peterson joined Gilliana and Wilder in the top half of the 1500-meter run standings (4:49.46, sixth), while sophomore Katie Van Havel finished second in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 16'10" and senior Ari Martinez opened her outdoor season with a runner-up mark of 5'6½" in the high jump.
The Falcons head to California next weekend to compete in the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State.
