WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley goalie Connor Hasley made 26 saves to lead Bentley to a 2-0 lead over Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey America game, Friday, Nov. 22, at the Bentley Ice Arena in Waltham, Mass. Air Force's four-game winning streak ended with the loss.
Bentley (8-4-1, 7-2-0 AHA) opened the scoring when Ryan Upson redirected a shot from the point by Artem Buzoverya at 10:23 of the first period. Later in the period, Bentley's top line had an odd-man rush, but Blessing made a pad save on Bentley's leading scorer, Ethan Leyh. Bentley outshot Air Force, 12-10, in the first period.
Late in the second period, Buzoverya intercepted a pass in his own end and skated down the left wing side on the mini-breakaway. Buzoverya went around the AF net and scored on a wrap around with 1:54 left in the second period.
With 3:36 left in the third, Air Force pulled the goalie for the extra attacker, but was unable to get on the board. In the final 3:36, Hasley made five saves and Bentley blocked five shots.
Air Force outshot Bentley, 11-6, in the third period and 26-24 in the game. Each team was 0-for-1 on the power play. Guy Blessing made 22 saves for the Falcons.
"That was a men's league game out there," head coach Frank Serratore said. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for their program. Were they better than us? Yes. But I love the spirit and fight in our guys. Bentley is going to win a lot of games this year. There is nothing easy about playing against them. They are tough and they are honest tough. The biggest key to the game was Bentley getting that goal late in the second. We fought til the bitter end, but we need to find a way to score some goals."
Air Force (8-7-0, 5-2-0 AHA) and Bentley conclude the two-game series Saturday, Nov. 23, at 4:05 pm ET in Waltham, Mass.
