PUEBLO, Colo. – Air Force junior Taylor Rioux broke the Academy's 19-year-old record in the 200-meter dash and led off a record-setting 4x100-meter relay on Saturday, March 23, as the track and field team wrapped a successful day of competition at the Spank Blasing Invitational in Pueblo.
Rioux, who set program standards in the 200- and 400-meter events during the indoor season, added her name to the outdoor records with a 200-meter time of 24.15. That time, which was second in the 52-runner field, knocked 0.29 seconds from a program record that Jami Hodge had held since 2005. Rioux's individual record came after she ran the second leg of a 4x100-meter relay that crushed an Academy standard that had stood since 2013. Joined by freshman Brook Coleman, freshman Kori Leverenz, and senior Katie Thompson, the quartet clocked a winning 46.62 to take 0.67 seconds off the previous mark.
The junior wasn't done rewriting the Academy's all-time standings on Saturday, as she also ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay. Rioux, along with Leverenz, sophomore Sam Loida and senior Amanda Fraga, won the final event of the day with a time of 3:51.80 – the 12th-fastest time in program history. The women's record book received a final update from freshman Allison Fernstrom, who debuted at No. 21 on the Academy's all-time standings of the 400-meter hurdles after clocking a time of 1:04.67 in her collegiate debut of that event.
Backed by a pair of Air Force Top 10 performances from sophomore Jettason Rose, the men's sprint squad also had a stellar day on the track at the ThunderBowl. Rose opened his day with the second-fastest 100-meter time in Academy history (10.40) during a third-place finish in the 59-runner event and then added the program's eighth-fastest 200-meter time (21.02) to finish fourth out of 55 runners. Junior Javin Bostic, who finished just ahead of Rose in the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.38, recorded the second-fastest 200-meter time in Academy history (20.67) to win the 55-sprinter event.
Bostic and Rose were two of three Falcons to impact the Academy Record Book in the 200-meter dash on Saturday, as freshman Jace Martin recorded a time of 21.47 to debut at No. 24 on the program's all-time standings. In addition, the 4x400-meter relay of junior Cameron Breier, classmate Darek Hackett, freshman James Warmbrod IV and senior John Colizzi matched the 15th-fastest time in Academy history, as they finished second with a combined time of 3:10.95.
The men posted 1-2-3 finishes in both the 110-meter hurdles and pole vault.
