Air Force Heads to Oklahoma for Season Opener
1/10/2025 5:22:00 PM | Men's Gymnastics
The Air Force men's gymnastics team, ranked ninth in the preseason coaches poll, kicks off the 2025 campaign this Sunday (Jan. 12), when it travels to Norman, Okla., to take on the third-ranked Sooners.
MEET INFORMATION
The dual meet between Air Force and Oklahoma will take place at 2:00 p.m. (CT) inside McCasland Field House on the Sooners' campus. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN+, while live results will be available via StatBroadcast (direct links are available on the Falcons' schedule page at GoAirForceFalcons.com). Tickets, which are $7 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors, can be purchased online at SoonerSports.com.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS
Oklahoma is ranked third in the 2025 preseason poll following that same placement at last spring's NCAA Championships.
HOMECOMING SEASON
Air Force assistant coaches Mike Reid and Sergey Resnick were teammates on the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team during the 2013-15 seasons. The pair helped the Sooners to the NCAA title during their final season together, with Reid winning the pommel horse title and Resnick taking third on the parallel bars.
NEW RULES FOR 2025
The NCAA Men's Gymnastics Rules Committee announced that, beginning in 2025, meets will feature a "four-up, four-count" scoring system – lowering each lineup depth from five to four.
AIR FORCE IN THE RANKINGS
The Falcons are ranked ninth in the College Gymnastics Association Preseason Coaches' Poll. By matching the highest preseason ranking in program history, the Falcons lead the trio of service academy squads.
WHAT A YEAR!
Pommel horse specialist Patrick Hoopes is back in the gym following a tremendous junior season that included the Academy's first-ever NCAA championship, a first-place finish at the Olympic Trials, a runner-up finish at the U.S. National Championship, a Winter Cup title, his second-straight USAG championship, his first international competition (Baku World Cup), and an Academy Record 15.400 performance on his signature event during the team finals of the USAG Collegiate Nationals that helped the Falcons to their first team title in four championship meets.
REPORTING FOR DUTY
Air Force welcomed four talented freshmen to its roster for the 2025 season, with the addition of Jack Foltyn, Jared Fry, Ryan Jacobsen, and Christopher Nogueira .
ON THE SIDELINES
Josh Loeser is back for his sixth season as the head coach at Air Force and his 11th overall year on the coaching staff. Loeser, the USAG (2024) and MPSF (2023) Head Coach of the Year, spent two years as an assistant for the men's resident program at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center, served as an assistant coach for the Falcons from 2013-17 and captured USAG Assistant Coach of the Year honors four times during that five-year stint. Loeser will be joined in the gym by former OU teammates Mike Reid and Sergey Resnick.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Falcons will host just three competitions within the familiar confines for Cadet West Gym this season – with two of those occurring within the first three meets. Air Force will open its home schedule hosting the annual Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 12, before welcoming California to the Academy on Feb. 8 for an early-season senior day. The Falcons will then be on the road until April 5, when they return to USAFA to host the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force opens the home portion of its season next Saturday (Jan. 18), when it hosts Arizona State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Simpson, Stanford, and the Rocky Mountain Mavericks at the historic Rocky Mountain Open at 6:00 p.m. (MT) inside Cadet West Gym.
