Air Force Unable To Overtake San Jose State In 70-62 Setback

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Air Force men's basketball (3-14, 0-6 MW) fell to San Jose State (6-11, 1-5 MW), 70-62, in Mountain West action Tuesday night at Provident Credit Union Event Center. Freshman forward Lucas Hobin led the Falcons with 16 points.
In a closely contested game, Air Force could not get enough stops late, despite keeping the game close for much of the game.
San Jose State went up 10 at 49-39 with 9:45 to play and was poised to pull away. The Falcons responded with a 9-4 run to get the game down to three at the seven minute mark.
The Falcons trailed by five with five minutes to play and had just gotten the ball back on a shot-clock violation by the Spartans. On the ensuing play, Air Force drew an offensive foul. San Jose State then hit back-to-back three's and went back up by double digits. The Falcons were unable to overcome the deficit despite getting within four points with less than a minute to play.
A sluggish start had the Falcons trailing 27-21 at the half. Air Force shot just 26 percent from the field in the opening half.
The offense got going in the second half, as the Falcons shot 63 percent in the second half, putting up 41 points. Air Force shot 50 percent from three in the second half, connecting on 5-of-10 from long range.
The freshmen trio of Hobin, Kam Sanders and Ethan Greenberg combined for 40 points on the night. Hobin scored all 16 of his points in the second half, making three three's. Sanders led the Falcons with six rebounds and five assists, while scoring 11 points. Greenberg scored 13 points, connecting on a pair of three's, while collecting two steals.
San Jose State had four in double figures. Guard Ben Roseborough scored 19 points and guard Pasha Goodarzi scored 18 points, with four three's.
Air Force shot 45 percent from the field for the game and made eight three's. The Falcons shot 80 percent from the line, for its second-best night from the line.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Jan. 17 hosting Nevada. Tip time is 2 pm PT and the game will be televised by Altitude and streamed on the MW Network.
