PUEBLO, Colo. – Battling blustery conditions at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl this afternoon (March 25), the track and field team combined for five first-place finishes and a pair of Air Force Top 10 marks during a split-squad weekend at the Spank Blasing Invitational.
AIR FORCE TOP-10 MARKS
No. 6 – Javin Bostic, 100-Meter Dash (10.49)
No. 7 – Jacqui Spencer, 400-Meter Hurdles (62.11)
Senior Zac Larrier, sophomore Taylor Rioux and classmate Javin Bostic captured first-place finishes in three-straight events, as Larrier (49.03) and Rioux (56.81) swept the men's and women's titles of the 400-meter dash, and Bostic followed those races with a winning time of 10.49 in the 100-meter dash. The 100-meter race was one of two event victories for Bostic, who also captured a wind-aided 21.11 (+3.5) victory in the 200-meter dash. Senior Cameron Harris rounded out the Falcons' list of event winners, as he clocked a wind-aided 13.97 (+3.3) to easily win the 110-meter hurdles.
Although the wind had an impact on many of today's marks, the gusts died down momentarily for the first heat of the 100-meter dash (-0.8) – a heat that saw Bostic sprint to the sixth-fastest time in Academy history with his 10.49 finish. Bostic, who debuted on the program's Top 10 (ninth, 10.55) on the same stretch of track last weekend, paced the Falcons to three of the top-five times today, as senior Jacob Trach (10.73) and junior Jackson Connelly (10.74) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Bostic also led Air Force to four of the top-nine finishes in the 40-sprinter 200-meter event. Classmate Cameron Breier added a wind-aided 21.42 (+3.5) to finish third, while Trach and junior Brandon Lindner finished seventh (22.11, +3.5) and ninth (career-best 22.35), respectively. Junior Philip Hundl joined Harris in the top-10 of the 110-meter hurdles (14.65, seventh), while a quartet of 1500-meter runners – junior Sean Maison (3:54.73, second), junior Eli Bennett (3:56.00, third), senior Scott Maison (4:01.07, eighth) and senior Aidan Boyle (4:04.81, 10th) – all finished within the top-10 of that 40-runner event.
Freshman Texas Tanner also had another strong weekend at the ThunderBowl, placing within the top-six in all three of his throwing events – and during competitions that featured more than 30 throwers each. The freshman recorded career-best marks to finish fifth in both the hammer throw (176'2") and discus throw (157'1"), while adding a sixth-place throw of 53'9" in the shot put.
Lindner added a career-best leap of 47'10" to finish fourth in the triple jump and debut in a tie for No. 20 on the program's all-time standings in that event, while classmate Alex Patton entered the Top 25 of the 800-meter run following a runner-up time of 1:52.10 (1:51.50a). Bostic, Connelly, Harris and Larrier also accounted for a runner-up time of 41.78 in the 4x100-meter relay, while junior John Colizzi finished sixth out of 31 athletes in the long jump following a wind-aided leap of 22'9¼" (+2.1).
On the women's side, Rioux moved up to No. 13 on the program's all-time standings with her 400-meter time of 56.81, while freshman Jacqui Spencer clocked the seventh-fastest time in program history (62.11) during a top-five finish of the 400-meter hurdles. It was one of two top-five finishes for the first-year Falcon, as Spencer also finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.49 (+2.6).
The trio of junior Rachel Crytser (4:42.23), senior Maddie Edwards (4:44.62) and sophomore Ally Peterson (4:44.62) went 1-2-3 in their heat of the 1500-meter run, en route to top-10 finishes in the full 47-athlete event. Junior Ava Gilliana picked up a fourth-place time of 2:15.76 in the 800-meter run, while classmate Rayna Fruchey finished seventh in her season debut of the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:44.62).
The Falcons head to California next weekend (March 31-April 1) for the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and the Stanford Invitational.
