ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Headlined by an Academy Record performance from senior Taylor Rioux, several members of the Air Force track and field team made significant updates to the program's record book this evening (Jan. 31) during the opening day of the UNM Team Open in Albuquerque.
Rioux clocked a program-record time of 24.54 to finish ninth in the 48-sprinter event and slice 0.03 seconds off the previous standard she set last year. The senior's record was one of three Air Force Top 10 200-meter marks set on the Albuquerque Convention Center oval Friday night. Classmate Javin Bostic became just the third Falcon in program history to run sub-21 indoors, as he blazed a 20.92 finish to move up to No. 3 on the all-time standings and finish second in the "invitational" section, while sophomore James Warmbrod IV posted a personal-best time of 21.47 to debut on the program's Top 10 and earn a 10th-place finish in the 56-runner "open" event.
Warmbrod wasn't done updating the record book on Friday, as he returned to the track to clock the 13th-fastest 400-meter time in program history. Crossing the finish line in 47.82, Warmbrod won his heat and finished ninth in the full 47-runner field.
Air Force also received another update to the weight throw standings, as senior Cooper Stroka unleashed a career-best throw of 20.80 meters (68'3") to move into second all-time at the Academy. Adding more than one foot to the program's Senior Class Record, Stroka finished fourth in the 15-thrower event. Junior Texas Tanner surpassed the 70-foot barrier for the fourth time in as many meets, as he recorded a throw of 72'9¼" (22.18m) to finish second in the field. With Tanner's current Air Force Record of 22.26 meters and Stroka's 20.80-meter throw, the top-two throwers in Academy history are on the 2025 roster.
Freshman Asher Jenkins joined Warmbrod in the top-15 in the open 200-meter dash, as he crossed the finish line in a time of 21.65 (15th). Elsewhere, the "B" section of the pole vault, Air Force picked up a trio of top-five finishes. Freshmen Brayden Richards and James Vogel Jr. placed third (4.78m, 15'8¼") and fifth (4.63m, 15'2¼"), respectively, in the men's event, while sophomore Karli Neff cleared 3.56 meters (11'8") to place fifth in the women's competition.
The Falcons will wrap up action at the UNM Team Open tomorrow (Feb. 1), while the majority of the distance squad will travel to Boulder for the Colorado Invitational.
