Air Force Wraps Up Action at Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Highlighted by four improvements to the Air Force Record Book, four first-place finishes and one top collegiate finish, a small track and field contingent wrapped up competition against their Front Range foes at the Jack Christiansen Invitational this afternoon (April 23) in Fort Collins.

Sophomore Philip Hundl clocked the eighth-fastest 110-meter hurdles time in Air Force history, as he posted a career-best time of 14.16 to finish second in the 14-runner event. Hundl was one of two Falcons to impact the program's all-time standings in that event, as junior Cameron Harris posted a career-best 14.19 to match the Academy's No. 13 mark and claim a third-place finish. Overall, the Falcons accounted for five of the top-eight times in the race, as sophomore Seth Meador (fifth, 14.55), classmate Braeden Holcombe (seventh, career-best 14.81) and freshman Darek Hackett (eighth, career-best 14.90) all joined Hundl and Harris near the top half of the field.

The men also impacted the program's all-time standings of the 400-meter hurdles, as freshman Cameron Breier clocked a career-best time of 52.30 to debut at No. 14 in the Air Force Record Book and win the event by nearly two seconds. Fellow freshman Collin Schulz opened the day with a winning leap of 6'8" in the high jump – a clearance that moved him to No. 22 on the all-time list, while Hundl added a clearance of 6'6" to give Air Force the 1-2 sweep in that event.

The Falcons earned additional first-place finishes from senior Sean Geither (200-meter dash) and sophomore Keith Oswald (javelin throw), while senior AJ Kedge was the top collegiate in the 1500-meter run. Geither clocked a time of 21.67 to claim the win on the track and lead Air Force to a pair of top-five finishes in that event (sophomore John Eldridge, fourth in outdoor debut of 21.97), while Oswald unleashed a career-best throw of 182'0" to claim his first collegiate victory and lead the Falcons to a pair of finishes within the top half of the field (senior Jarod Pankau, third at 168'10"). Kedge, who finished second overall in the 17-runner event with a career-best time of 3:56.88, was one of two Falcons to finish within the top half of the field, as classmate Matt Zacharias placed seventh after finishing in 4:02.40.

In addition to the 1-2 finish in the high jump, the Falcons earned three more top-three finishes in the jumping events today. Sophomore John Colizzi and Brandon Lindner claimed runner-up honors in the long jump (22'8") and triple jump (44'11¾"), respectively, while senior Ryan Brown finished third in the pole vault following a season-best clearance of 15'7".

Prior to claiming the 200-meter win, Geither earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (48.71), as he and classmate Charles Dimnwaobi (fifth, 49.01) finished within the top five of the 12-runner event. Eldridge and junior Jacob Trach both placed within the top half of the 100-meter field, after clocking career-best times of 10.97 (fifth) and 11.09 (eighth), respectively, while senior Frank Rossi collected a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run after clocking a time of 1:54.28.

Air Force accounted for a pair of runner-up finishes on the women's side, as senior Kristin Kerrigan recorded a career-best distance of 122'4" to finish second in the javelin and junior Aaliyah Ricketts earned the same placement in the triple jump after posting a leap of 35'6". Fellow junior Stephanie Gregersen collected a third-place finish in the 800-meter run after posting a season-opening time of 2:27.50 and sophomore Rebecca Wusinich placed within the top half of the 21-runner 1500-meter event following a season-best time of 4:52.96 (10th).

The Falcons split for competition next week, as part of the squad travels to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 112th running of the famed Drake Relays on April 28-30 and the rest heads to Clovis, Calif., for the Fresno State Invitational on April 29-30.
