Falcons Claim Six Wins in Indoor Home Finale

Katie Schlather registered the sixth-best pole vault in Air Force history to win the event.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Two additions to the Air Force Top 10 and six first-place finishes highlighted the final home indoor meet of the 2022 track and field season this evening (Feb. 18), as the Falcons wrapped up the regular season with a strong showing at the Air Force Collegiate Open.
Freshman Katie Schlather and senior Grace Proesch highlighted the night, as the pair accounted for Top 10 performances in their respective events. Schlather registered a career-best clearance of 12'11½" to win the pole vault and debut in sixth on the program's Top 10, while Proesch clocked a personal-best 200-meter time of 25.20 to improve her own No. 6 standing on the program's all-time standings.

Women's 200-Meter Dash: Grace Proesch, 25.20 (No. 6 all-time)
Women's Pole Vault: Katie Schlather, 12'11½" (No. 6 all-time)
Schlather was one of six Falcons to claim first-place finishes on the night and helped Air Force to a sweep of event titles in the pole vault, as senior Ethan Gardner cleared a career-best 16'10¾" to win the men's event. The Falcons added a third title in the vertical jumps, as sophomore Philip Hundl won the high jump with a career-best clearance of 6'8¾". Freshman Bryce Lentz won the mile in a raw time of 4:14.02, senior Charles Dimnwaobi clocked a 21.81 to win the 200-meter dash, and junior Hayden Bullock rounded out the Falcons' event winners with a career-best distance of 55'10¼" in the shot put.

In addition to collecting first-place finishes, Bullock and Lentz also moved up the Academy's all-time standings in their respective events. Bullock added nearly two feet to his distance in the shot put to move into 11th in the program's extended record book, while Lentz's altitude-adjusted time of 4:04.43 is the 12th-fastest mile in Air Force history. Lentz was one of two Falcons to impact the Top 20 in the mile, as senior AJ Kedge clocked a career-best converted time of 4:06.57a (4:16.25) to finish third in the meet and move into No. 20 on the all-time list. Sophomore John Colizzi completed the Falcons' list of athletes that impacted the program's Top 25, as he registered a career-best distance of 23'6¼" to finish second in the meet and match the 16th-best mark in Academy history.
Lentz and Kedge helped Air Force to a sweep of the top-five finishes in the 27-competitor mile event. Junior Scott Maison finished second in a raw time of 4:14.57, while classmates Aidan Boyle and Ethan Marshall finished fourth (career-best 4:17.56) and fifth (career-best 4:17.70), respectively.

Freshman Ben Charlebois (second, career-best 16'4¾") and senior Calvin Ciganik (third, 15'5") joined Gardner at the top of the men's pole vault, while seniors Frankie Porambo and Erika Willis placed second and third, respectively, following matching clearances of 12'5½".
Sophomore Gerrit Tamminga joined Bullock in the top-three of the shot put standings with a throw of 51'9¾", while junior Jaret Prete earned the same placement in the weight throw with a distance of 61'9¾" – his second-straight week of registering a throw of 60-plus feet.
Colizzi claimed another top-three finish in the triple jump (45'6¼"), while freshman Seth Meador earned the same placement in the 60-meter hurdles after matching his career-best time of 8.29. On the women's side, junior Aaliyah Ricketts and freshman Jessie Boult rounded out the list of top-three finishers by placing second (17'3¼") and third (career-best 17'2"), respectively, in the long jump.
Championship season begins for the Falcons next week, as the team travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2022 Mountain West Indoor Championships. The three-day meet – the conference's first indoor championship in two years – begins on Thursday, Feb. 24, and continues through Saturday, Feb. 26.
